When I turn on the ignition, I hear a hum followed by a buzz (best way I can describe it); sounds like a pump priming or similar.
Lasts no more than 2-3 seconds and I typically wait for it to complete before I start the engine.
I presume its normal, but curious to learn what is taking place.

It could be the A.B.S. system ?

does your driver's seat still move back and forth with the key insert?
Just a thought. I've never heard the fuel pump from the inside.

Heard the same thing on my Mo. It only it happens now and then. It's in the engine compartment as I was standing in front of the Mo one day as my wife got ready to crank it. Don't think it's any concern and think it may be the anti lock booting up.

I always thought it was the fuel rail and injectors priming up. I say this because I heard the exact same noise in my 97 Maxima which did not have ABS.

It might be the result of the fuel pump pressuring the fuel rail but the actual fuel pump is beneath the rear seat.
