I was thinking about upgrading the taillights on the 04 to the LED ones on the 06's. How does the 06 unit light up? Does every bulb light up when you brake and is their a dedicated segment just meant for the turn signals? Or is it set up like the Infiniti FX's? Can someone with an 06 check this out?

This can determine how simple or difficult it can be to do a swap.

(As you may know, on the 03-05, the taillight is segmented into 3 sections one for the brakes, one for the turn signal, and one for the wedge bulb.)

There is also a fourth bulb that lights up on the side of the rear lights I believe.

I ordered a pair of the 06 tail lights from Courtesy parts this week, and I'll play around with them this weekend.

I've heard they may not be exactly plug-and-play. I pulled up the wiring diagram for my '05 murano, the wiring is straight-forward, so maybe it won't be too hard to put these in.

Will post more information this weekend...

Rewiring is not a problem. It is easy. I just find it hard to justify to spend this kind of money to replace perefectly working system.......but than again that's me.......itmay change in the future..

Good luck on your modification protonz

I've seen the '06 tail lamps. Because they are LED's with ability for varying intensity, the entire lamp lights up when the headlights are on. In braking and turning, the entire lamp increases in intensity (if headlamps/taillamps are on) or just light up (if taillamp is off). Not sure I like the look of a zillion little points of red light. I know that 's the trend, but I prefer the solid look of old lamps better, even if the assembly is segmented into three.

I find non-LED lights easier on the eye if they happen to be in front of you, plus, I actually like the fact that when incandescent lights turn on or go off, there is a "dimming" action that goes on. LEDs are too abrupt.

At 70 MPH you are traveling 102 feet every second, or approximately 1 foot every hundredth of a second. If the "abruptness" of the LED tail lights enable me to react a few hundredths of a second quicker, the extra two or three feet I save may mean all the difference in the world when avoiding, or reducing the severity of, an accident.

I prefer the "warm" look of incandescent tail lamps, but there is no doubt in my mind that LEDS reach full illumination quicker than incandescent lamps. Plus you should never have to change a tail lamp every again. (But if the LED does fail, it is much more expensive to replace. Trade-offs.)

I like the idea of swapping out the tailights with LEDs. I just don't think it is worth the expense.

Especially for me, since I am leasing....

For cost, I think just the 3rd brake light should use an LED. Now you'll have both soft/warm brake lights and quick acting LED.

I believe the third brake light is already LED on all Muranos.

LEDs do burn out, I've seen many many cars with LED 3rd brake lights on the rear spoiler and one or two of them are burnt out.

Ok, I've gone ahead and purchased the 2006 LEDs, I have the service manual for my 2004, does anyone have a wiring diagram for the 2006 so I can re-wire these new lights in? I'd be happy to document the process.

Ah yes it is, an LED.
I never let another one in front of me so never noticed. LOL

Thanx for the heads-up. I had no idea the third brake light was LED. I had wondered why no one talked about upgrading it.

I love learning new things about the MO.

the 06 led tails are almost plug and play. is per information found on fresh alloy, they turn on to full brightness when the headlights are tunred on and when you press the break you have just the wedge bulb on the side reflector getting brighter and dimmer. the guys at fresh alloy are pretty close to finding out how this all will work together. they think it's just a resistor and slight wiring fix.

i presonally don't like the fact that the whole tail light flashes when the signal light is turned on. i'm currently waiting for led bulbs to come in from superbrightleds.com. i like the look of the jewel tail lights better but also like the quick on/off of the led's so just bulb replacements will do well for me. i'll post pictures when they come in and i change them out.
