I bought my Mo in April 2004. It's run trouble free so far. After reading about failed CVTs, failing on-board computers, and other problems, I'm now considering purchasing the Extended Service Plan. I've already done a search of the forum on this matter, but would like to solicit some updated opinions on whether to buy the extended service plan or not.

Once of the Finance Reps quoted me $1,500 at this point (11,000 miles). He says that it would be backdated to date of purchase and will cover me for another 5 years starting today (3 years past the regular warranty period). It covers most of the car (engine, powertrain, various moving parts, etc.). I understand that the features of these service contracts vary from dealer to dealer, but this one provides decent coverage of the big ticket items.

One sticky point is that the dealer will pay for a rent-a-car if they have to keep the car overnight because of the "repair work" that they are doing. However, if the car doesn't operate and it takes a few weeks for the part to arrive from the manufacturer, that's not considered to be the dealer's fault; thus, they wouldn't have to pay for the rent-a-car. very uncool, eh?

What do you guys think of the pricing?

Read the fine print HWNMurano...... I recall a special on 20/20 or some other news show a few months back that exposed some of these aftermarket warranties as being very poorly/cleverly written with lots of loopholes and exclusions. Personally, I have over 100,000 km with no problems whatsoever, and hope to have another 100,000 of the same, but having said that $1,500 sounds pretty reasonable for peace of mind, if it is extensive enough coverage. As far as the rentals, I guess if they wanted to go all out and offer free rentals for anything, the package would inevitably have to cost them/you more.:2:

Try buying your warranty directly from Nissan North America, not the dealer.
http://www.nissanautowarranty.com/

And if you want to go aftermarket, I have used Warranty Direct.
I have more faith in them than in the news magazines on TV.

I will second the recommendation to buy from Nissan, not the dealer. I got suckered into buying a warranty from my Pontiac dealer for a previous car I owned, and it ended up being pretty worthless. Those crooks thought up a million and one reasons why whatever problem I was having wasn't covered by the warranty, and no other Pontiac dealer could honor the warranty since it was just a dealer warranty.

So yeah, I would (and will) definitely go for a Nissan NA extended warranty.

Hey I just recieved in the mail yesterday from Warrantech an option of up to 100,000 mile unlimited years for 898.00 , wow but I need to call them and ask about the cvt. Because on the transmisson coverge there is no talk about some of the parts on a cvt verses an auto trans.

One problem with Nissan's extended warranty is that the maximum duration is for 7 years. Thats just 2 years beyond the standard powertrain warranty. If the main reason for an extended warranty is for CVT protection, thats a very expensive insurance policy. $1500 for 2 years extra coverage? I'm not so sure its worth it.

Well - if the CVT fails at 6 years - it will have paid for itself...

Dunno.

I'd do it.

Gold, silver, or bronze? I recommend Gold. You pay a little more now but you get more coverage.

Too bad I did not do my research when I got mine. I bought bumper to bumper warranty which turned out to be silver, and not so bumper to bumper :3:

Nissanautowarranty.com only sells the Bronze plan. The reason why there are two sets of quotes listed (with different prices) is because the cheaper one has a $50 per assembly deductible, and the more expensive has a $0 deductible.

Closer examination of the graphics indicates that this might not actually be direct from Nissan, but from Jaremko Nissan - googling that comes up with a Spokane WA Nissan dealer...:(

I gathered that from the graphic as well. I took a quick look at the items covered on this site and they do not match the one listed on the Nissandriven.com website I think. Could someone else check this as well?
