If I understand this correctly, your Murano was blowing white smoke during start-up, and you could smell gas, which eventually stops.

The Nissan dealer suggested the valve cover needed to be repaired? I do not see how the valve cover would produce those symptoms.

I would suggest a bad HEAD gasket (Not valve gasket).

If indeed, your translation is correct njjoe, the ONLY thing that gives white smoke is water.
The most common problem is a bad Head Gasket allowing water to migrate from the coolant ports to the cylinder(s).

OR, even worse, warped head.

If your car overheats or runs low on coolant it is possible to warp the cylinder head which will cause the car to blow white smoke when it first starts. The white smoke is from the anti-freeze and water. If this happens it can be expensive ($$$) to repair. Has your car over-heated recently?

Do not worry about your English. We will do our best to communicate with you.

I do not understand how a defective valve cover would cause you to smell gasoline. I do not see how that is possible. I suggest asking the Nissan dealer for a better explanation.

What country are you in?

Ok so he doesn't believe its the head gasket. I agree white exhaust usually means water. There is water going to the intake collector (pic att) so could be a crack letting a drip through until the aluminum heats up and seals the crack, doesn't take much, might not see the water level go down right away. And if water is getting into the intake it probably won't combust correctly which is why he smells gas.

OTOH could be temperature sensor or the TB or some other sensor that is making the engine run very rich on start/cold and then when the engine gets up to operating temperature and the O2 system kicks in its all right. He might want to have them perform the IAVL here: http://www.nissanmurano.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6969.
