Driving out to dinner with the family tonight, some deranged homeless man near the freeway entrance decides to smack my beloved Murano. He hits it so hard as I pass that he knocks the side view mirror back and pops the back cover off. The reason for his provocation? NONE!! I must have been the fourth car that passed him. He decided he wanted to be a psycho so he hits my car. As_hole.

I tried to call in a police report. Should have know better than to try that with the inept, worthless police department in DC. After waiting around the next exit down from where I got on the freeway, I pulled over at a park to try to report it to an officer walking his K9 dog. He mentioned that he heard about the incident on the radio and that units were at the location with the homeless guy in custody. I went back to file the report (even though my 2.5 year old son was complaining about being hungry at 7:30pm). No one there. Not even the deranged homeless loser. Since only about 15 minutes had passed, I highly doubt they wrapped tings up that quickly. Luckily, I found the popped off cover. A couple of gouges and some scratches, but not busted. Thank goodness for that.

I can't decided if I'm madder at the homeless loser for being allowed to harrass citizens minding their own business or the police for not caring or bothering. No wonder car thefts are on the rise and kids are being killed in drive by shootings - the police can't even write a damn report about a pyschopath homeless guy running amok. So much for the "finest" in the nation's capital.

I will never again have doubts about NOT giving any change to the homeless.

Sorry to hear what happend to your precious MO.

Yah, chiet happens and what you gonna do about it?
Get it over with and move on is the best additude.

Most cops are crooked, I'm sure we got some good cops out there too but most of them just wanna pay attention on works that will give them a raise or promotion.

I have a friend who was cop, he quit. When I asked him why he left his job. He said. " they are all corrupted from top to bottom, they takes too many long breaks, and extortion/take bribe...they always fight for the chicks too"

I wonder if you have gone to Japan...I was surprise to see they (cops) actually follow the traffic rules and not speeding...they treat you like a person and take no mucho additute...just doing their job.

I had to ask them for help on one incident when I was there visiting...they escorted me all the way out! What a service!

Nizmo - you're right. Chit happens. I'm over it. Its only the cover of the car and afterall, its a car - not a living thing. But still - what does DC police's lack of response say for the condition of our nation's capital? The city is run by inept morons. If Mayor Williams and Chief Ramsey really wanted to do something, they could - its just politics as usual. Take a page out of the book of Rudy Guliani and start cracking down on "quality of life" violations. Then watch what happens. It all starts with the little things first. Of course, Chief Ramsey is too busy having speed cameras installed on freeways to fill city coffers.

The difference in attitude among cops is amazing when you cross city limits. I used to live in Alexandria, Virginia. When I had the plates stolen off my old car from my apartment parking lot, I called the non-emergency number for the Alexandria police. I wanted to file the report just so I could get replacement plates from the DMV for $5 (as opposed to the $50 for lost plates). I was more than willing to give it over the phone. No can do said the dispatcher who assured me someone would respond. The cop showed up in less than five minutes. He was really friendly and courteous, looked at the car and wrote up the report. Apologized to me that this happened (like it was his fault!) and told me which DMV office would still be open on a Saturday afternoon.

DC cops are simply worthless. This was not my first time dealing with them. When I used to bicycle into work, I got knocked over by a Jeep Wrangler running a red light. Lucikly, he only knocked my front tire sideways scratching up the fork and spilling me on the pavement. He stopped only long enough to see I was not badly hurt and then took off. I got his plate and the description of the car. I ended up waiting for TWO HOURS for a cop to show so that I could report it. Dispatcher didn't want the plate number or description or anything, just said a cop would be by. I gave up after the two hours and called my wife to come get me as it was getting dark and I was in the wonderfully safe area of the southwest waterfront. She showed up a half hour later and STILL NO COP!! I went to the local precinct the next day to file the report (trying to be a conscientious citizen). By then, of course, it was WAY too late. Nice attitude - cops not even caring about a hit and run. No wonder DC residents are leaving in droves. Can't blame them with services (or lack thereof) like this. I won't even get started about how you can't drink the water in the nation's capital (high lead levels) or the condition of roads and other infrastructure.

Okay - enough ranting. Again, I'm over the incident, but this just reaffirms my disdain for the so-called police officers of this city.

Coming from California, I've come to understand that the cops do not even come out to the scene of a traffic incident unless someone is hurt. In congested San Francisco traffic (particularly rolling back on hills by people who can't drive stick) I've been bumped on the front many times and also rear ended by impatient drivers too quick to get on the gun when the light turns green. Each time I have called the police, and they have never responded, not even once. One time I flagged down a cop car that was across the street from my fender bender, and the officer just yelled back is anyone hurt? It did not appear so, so he just said let your insurance handle it (yeah, without a police report, who is going to believe me).

Eric, look at it this way, at least they didn't show up and beat the crap out of ya.
It's fate that this was posted today....I have had several conversations with folks about evil cops, intitiated by them.
When my Mom passed she left me with a nasty dodge station wagon.....but anywaaaaay, I was hit in the back by a girl flying low in the rain on a congested street here in Atlanta. (beaver ruin Kris)
I got out and saw the plastic bumper cover smashed under the tailgate. Her grill, headlights, hood and both quater panels on her new max were really torn up. She says, "they ain't nothin wrong wit yo cah, I don't have no time fo this". I said, "ohhhh yes you do, pull over to that side street so we may exchange insurance papers". After coralling her 2 times she finally went over to the street. She gave me bogus name and insurance stuff and said, "you ain't gettin no more, I'm leaving", and she left. I took down her plate number as she drove away. I tried to call the numbers she gave me---bogus.
So I called the cops and asked what to do.
The female officer says: giving you any name and any insurance info is all they are required to do...aaaaannnnnnd,
A. the car isn't hers.
B. she probably doesn't have a license.
C. her boyfriend who does own it doesn't have insurance.
and...
D. if you press this and we do find her, she will press charges on you for terroristic threats. we will have to arrest you and take you to jail."

I went out to the driveway with my trusty wonderbar nail puller and popped the plastic rivet heads holding the bumper cover on--POP, after a buffing it looked good as new.

I have many more wonderful stories from Atlanta like this.
I need a job in Florida--HEY PCS! Find me a job there!

:D
