New 2006 SL Owner

Just bought a 2006 Murano SL. Needed a bit of love, but all in all engine and frame were spotless. Though it looked okay during inspection, i am planning to change the rear subframe within the year, so it set me back 4k CAD$ with another 1000$ to 2000$ in the near future.

This is the first car I have owned and so far I am very happy with the old girl, though I am looking at options to make it look less... Dated. As a 30 year old private in the Canadian Military, I already get a lot of old man joke. Someone already congratulated me on my new chariot allowing me to arrive "Precisely when you intend to."

Welcome!

If the engine and frame looked spotless, why are you replacing the rear subframe?

How many miles are on it?

Warning, 1st gen Muranos tend to be money pits... I would walk away based on what you have shared with us so far.

166k kilometers, and while the frame was in excellent condition, the rear subframe has not fared so well. Canadian winters and road salts, I guess. It's not about to give out on me, but it will need replacing soon-ish.

Walking away isn't really an option, given the market, my budget and the requirements of my work, but I will keep that in mind, thank you.
I understand. However, the money you have already mentioned needing to spend is what about what a 2006 sells for in the US...

Before sinking money into it, check for CVT error codes. The Android app CVTz50 can scan for CVT error codes, most scanners cannot.

My bad, I paid the car 3400$ and 600$ in repairs. 4000$ in repairs would not have flown xD

I am aware the CVT is unreliable, but didn't know there was an app to diagnose it, will look into that, thank you!
Ahh, I misread that 4k. I thought it was for the subframe replacement, not the purchase price.

The CVT is not necessarily unreliable. If you perform a CVT drain and fill on a regular schedule and don't abuse it by stomping on it from a full stop you should be okay... There are reports in this forum of the 1st gen CVT lasting well over 200k miles, so it's not inherently unreliable. I do recommend dropping the pan to inspect for wear debris and to clean the internal mesh filter.

It's a nice vehicle, I really enjoyed my 16 years of ownership before the front subframe corroded away...

Best of luck!
