I recently bought a 05 murano . I get a #5 injector code and a crank sensor 1 code. Has 149K miles. the car started to shake the steering wheel pretty bad when accelerating from 40MPH .Let of the pedal and goes away. slowly step on pedal and no shake.. I ordered that parts and was told it may be transmission problem also but no trans codes. I only put 175 miles on and want to fix the car up right as i love being able to see all around me. The CVT trans is all new to me also. Never had one . Im an old fart and pretty good at repairing my rides . Can anyone in the know tell me if its possible trans is going south. Fluids are up new fuel pump installed
thanks all

Most scanners cannot read Nissan CVT error codes. The Android app CVTz50 can read CVT error codes.

You'll need an Android phone and a OBD2 dongle along with the CVTz50 app.

However, the bad news is a higher mileage 1st gen Murano like yours can be a money pit, so check the CVT before sinking anymore money into it...

What specific codes are you getting?

As @chidog said, misfires can make the car shake pretty badly. Was the MIL flashing when you felt this shaking?

Yeah, that would most likely be a CVT issue unfortunately...

The car in the vid shows the red DTC in the right corner indicating a CVT error code is present...

The fella that posted the vid said that a new crankshaft sensor solved it.. I found the story on this forum and will see if i can find it again

Great, that sounds hopeful then!

Although that is not what I would expect a crankshaft sensor issue to sound like... I have no personal experience with a crankshaft sensor failing, so hopefully I'm incorrect...

Maybe I'm being thrown off buy the rattily sound -- it may be just the way it's being recorded that it making the rattle sound... I had assumed it was mechanical...

Me too. i hope its not the trans. I believe the car is not worth a new transmission. I wish it wold have done it when a test drove it lol.. I put on new tires, battery and fuel pump so far. I will try the sensor and have my fingers crossed lol
thanks

Honestly the way it shook i thought the front end was coming off. Only it seems when shifting to a higher gear at around 40MPH. It crusis at 60 smooth other than the slight engine miss from injector

Sorry to hear that. But if the CVT is dead, it's really the only thing you can do unfortunately.

If you have the time and motivation, you may want to consider parting out some of it to recoup your investment.

You mentioned you couldn't test drive it first, was it an auction vehicle?

Best of luck on you next purchase.

I'll tell you a lesson I learned, that the codes can be miss leading at time's. I have a 10 Murano and it started running crappy and the check engine like illuminated so I had it scanned and it said a couple different things ( can't recall at this moment, it was like 2 years ago) that were pretty costly but it ended up being a large split in the exhaust intake line at the rear top of the engine and cost me just at $300 to repair, the part was 200.
So I suggest you check your hoses especially the one that look like an accordion.
Also not sure about the Murano but I had a Cadillac that the catalyst went bad and caused all kinds of other codes to pop up and it ran like crap, I was lucky to get it up to 55 mph and make it home and to a repair shop.
Dint know if you know this or even if the 05 has the CVT transmission but mine does and because of the codes it read when it was just the air intake line split the dealership thought the transmission was going, they are known to go out at 130k miles and cannot be repaired, they must be replaced. That's the bad thing about CVT 's.
Good luck.

That is unfortunate. I bought my 05 for $750 from a guy who's wife just drive it like she stole it. Replaced all the coils, power steering pump and injectors. Had to buy a whole new front grill and bumper, because she rear ended someone.... But I've put 60k miles on it. It's at 275,000 miles now. Only problem I am having now is that the alternator is putting out too much voltage.
I bought a scanner from Harbor Freight that reads all the trans codes and even let's me into the OEM expanded menu. But at $300, it's worth the cost.

A little suggestion I would recommend to Everyone with a CVT you need to have the transmission serviced fluid checked & / or changed before 130k miles.
And if your Murano starts to jerk check your air & intake lines and hoses for splits & cracks before doing any major repairs it could save you so much.
But I'm sure most you guys know this.

Do you happen to know if it still has the original CVT?

If so, that is one of the longest lasting 1st gen CVTs that I have heard of! If true, it would show it's not a necessarily inherently defective design, although there are known weak areas of the design.

I think a fair number of supposed defective CVTs were incorrectly diagnosed. Engine air intake duct leaks being one cause that is often overlooked...
