New to lights

Hey guys
I own a 2012 SL murano and wanted to replace the halogens.
I found someone who could do it for less.
He mentioned there are 2 kinds
HID kit that only has low beams rendering high beams useless.
Then there are the Bi Xenon lights. That have both.
I am confused.
Doesnt the head light up front have 2 light bulbs that are clear.
So if I am to go with HID kit, would make 1 of the bulbs useless?
Or am I missing something?
I tried looking up pics of bi-xenon lights on an LE but it's so hard to make out anything thru pics.
My concern is to use both low and high beams without leaving anything useless.

I am somewhat confused on your question. Are you just talking about the kit of the real retro? and how much are they charging?

if your are talking about Plug-n-play kit--- we just have low beam projector (and a separate high beam) so in that case a kit is just for low beam.

if you are talking of retro-- baking open your headlight housing and replacing the projectors. and yes you can bolt either
* single xenon (i.e, TSX, curr. gen TL, RX330) PRojector OR
* bi-xenon projectors (i.e., OLD TL, mini D2s, mini H1, g37, etc) yet you can buy a splitter to have a bi-xenon and still use your high beam halogen.

you should start a thread in 2nd gen owners, I want to do a retro again on my MO but my wife is holding me and secondly I cant really find a info on how to remove the housing on our 2nd gen MO. :)

I used the diode method to activate my high beams, and will look up the info when I get back home tomorrow.

The photos no longer work on that write up so I'm unable to get a visual but I guess I need to get to that point and see what it looks like first. Which legs do I solder or connect the diode to?

Success! Thank you for that. I soldered the diode on the back of the circuit board between HL1 and HH2. I put heat shrink around the entire thing except for the small section on either end that I soldered to the terminals. Everything works, thanks to everyone who contributed to this conversion.

:29:

Oh pics of diode work:

I also did the OEM HID conversion. Had EU Xenon lamps which were basically plug an play, apart from the signal for the high beams. My electronics guy installed the diodes (1 pc for each side) for the high beams right in the cables. Seems to be safer then to play around with the electronics in the IPM module.

Can you ask your electronics guy how and where he installed diodes?

In the cables going for the HI and LO beam. It was a 10A 1000V diode

Supposedly anything above 10A and 50V will work!

Indeed. A 55W bulb draws about 4.5A. In this application, the current required is to keep the HID bulbs powered all the time in low and high beam. The only difference is that when high beam is triggered, small additional amount of current will be delivered to a solenoid to "flip" open a lens cover, thus creating a high beam effect by letting light shines above the cut offs. So a 10A 50V diode will work fine. :)

Does anyone know if a headlight leveling sensor can be added for auto-leveling of the HIDs?
I know they do exist as EU MO regulatory need to have such an auto-leveling system. My current HID lamps are EU so they are equipped for a leveling sensors, but the question here is what other modifications and/or modules I would need.

Hi there, I am new here and just happen to be working on my GF's Mo. its a base model and I just happen to also have access to a complete Mo with the Xenon lights. The engin is out of the donor Mo, and I was thinking I may be able to just follow the wiring and transfer whats needed from one mo to the other so I can use the Adjustment and the HID's without any modification. Has anyone tried this? Am I dreaming and this is impossible?

Thanks!
