Well thought I had an 06 on order last month turns out it wasn't. The order is in now for a Feb build and Apr ETA. Its been quite a hassle to get something done that should be real easy. I want to relate this story in case there are any others out there who decide to order one.

First I should say that at my local dealer there are two people that I trust. They always give me the straight scoop and a good deal. The rest I either don't trust or don't know. For the record, the two I trust are Tony Repucci and Bill Ladd and my dealer is Regal Auto Plaza in Huntsville, Alabama.

I had taken a screenshot of the nissan configurator screen and sent to my salesman in an email stating this is what I want no less, it could have more but no less and if it came down to it to order one. What I sent him is attached, an 06 SE with all the trimmings less chrome wheels and rear DVD. So they turn it over to the appropriate person who then proceeds to have an SL FWD transferred in from another dealer. After much laughter I told them to order me one as I couldn't find any that matched what I was looking for.

I was told that supposedly the appropriate person who does these things ordered it. Translated that means he wasn't sure. Well since I was 600 miles away over the holidays at the time all I could do was email and ask him to give me proof that it was ordered. So I continued to use the nissan website to search dealers within an acceptable range and then I spotted one that was an exact match. By the time I told them it was there, it had already been bought. No proof on the order was provided so I when I got back I went down to the dealer three days in a row. On the third day I finally got proof of an order. Except that order is for a Feb build not a Jan build. Now this "appropriate person" claims the first order was botched by NNA. I don't believe that.

Now this "appropriate person" has the others convinced that this is how the Nissan (and Mercedes for that matter) ordering process works. The dealer gets allocated so many slots of particular models that they can order. That allocation depends upon the build quantity and how well that dealer has sold those particular models in the past among other factors. They have a time window that their orders must be placed in during a given month. For Jan, that window was the 6th-9th.

Now this sort of makes sense but also it doesn't. I understand that ordering one takes time, it has to get in the manufacturing schedule, get on a boat, then delivered to a dealer. But what if your particular local dealer doesn't have an allocation? Can you then not order one? How can you sell product if you don't have it and can't get it? How can you ever build your quota by selling cars if for whatever reason your quota went to 0? I didn't get any answers to these questions but this is the process they are convinced of.

For all those that are contemplating making an order know that you need to get your order number. If they will do it, ask to get a copy of the order printout.

Until that order number exists you don't have an order. And yes the printout shows the invoice prices but you can get those on the web at other sources. Amazing how that invoice price is real close to carsdirect.com.

Also, I have to give my dealer credit. If one that matches mine does get shipped in to another dealer within a reasonable distance and before this one gets here, they will get it for me.

So that red X will eventually be replaced with a new pick of my 06.

Enforcer-

Out of curiosity, what is your confidence level that the dealer will have the right car and it will be delivered on schedule without you intervening any further?

I hope it all works out to your satisfaction.

They will have the right car, thats the import of having the build number. Takes the dealer out of it, thats NNA. As far as delivery, they were late on the Z. Also for the Z, the VIN number got assigned in the database when the vehicle was on the boat. Normally the VIN is assigned earlier, the Z was a little different. At any time the dealer can go online and track the order number and get a report. I will visit them a few more times over the next couple months so they can check in order to get the VIN number unless another exact match shows up that they can get. Once the VIN is assigned then I check their inventory on the nissanusa website for that VIN number. When that VIN shows up in their inventory then I know it is a week or so away and I will go down there and tell them.

Enforcer,

Glad to see you back! <Even though it took a rollover to get ya>

It was your site, lasercannon.com, that initially led me to here.

I was researching MO's and found that site first.

Good Luck with the '06.

Off topic perhaps but I just wanted to comment on how great enforcers site www.lasercannon.com is for those who want to learn about computers, servers, internet, etc. Thank you Mr3PUTT for bringing it up!

My VIN showed up in the dealers inventory on the nissanusa website last Friday 7 April 2006. It arrived Monday 10 April 2006 at the dealer at 15:15 hours CST. Picked it up this evening. Interesting note, I had stopped by the dealer yesterday at lunch and the status said 14 April.

First observations walking up to it. I didn't realize the front grill is a gunmetal or smoke chrome color. Not a bad thing just didn't realize it, the GP really makes this change noticeable. Also noticed the different wheels, sill covers and bumper protector.

First observations inside. I like the dash but the lights are bright, maybe too bright. Generally interior looks better, nice chrome accents here and there.

First observations driving. Yup thats the MO I've been missing for 5 months. :D

Will get pictures this weekend as work has me buried from dawn to dusk atm. Including side pics of the aluminum fuel shield.

It looks hot... I loved the look of the bug deflector on the 03. Are you going to try it for the 06? I need to check the Thread on that but so far it seems that it does not fit 06....

Enjoy the new ride!

Thinking back on the 03, what I really liked about the bug deflector was it prevented stone chips on that rolled front hood surface. It never really did deflect any bugs. I might try scotchcal on the hood like I did the Z. But the Mo hood is a lot more complex so I'll have to think about it for a while. I think thats how I decided to go the bug deflector route on the 03, thought about it too long :D. I am definitely putting the ventshades on. They were real handy. In fact I still have that set of weatherflectors maybe I'll see how bad the window interference is on the 06 with those. And of course my trusty bugdicer, mouse guard, and escort gotta go on. Then a bunch of detailed picks update the website and of course clay bar and Zaino. Dang, makes me tired just thinking about it, think I'll go lay down for a while :2: .

I figure the escort is the radar detector, but what is a bugdicer and a mouse guard?
