Illinois does require a front plate. I've driven the Typhoon without for years - the wife doesn't want to take the gamble with the Murano as it sees a lot more road time.
I don't know that I'd call it a wreck. My wife was at a light in traffic. The cars in front of her moved - she moved - traffic stopped - she didn't

It was very cold - the lady got out of her car - looked at her bumper - looked at my wife - smiled, shrugged her shoulders, gave her the thumbs up and drove away. There wasn't a lot of damage to the Murano - the plate braket broke, a couple grill tabs broke - I might fix them. There are some scuffs on the bumper that should buff out. I probably won't order the grill right away. I might wait until a grill I like comes out
I am going to try to return the one we bought from the dealer. I'm not really sure what the return policy is - but it is unopened.
