Can't seem to find an answer, located in Canada. Unit is pretty low mileage at 58k kms (36k miles) I know it's got remote start using the remote at pretty close range, but hoping to be able to use phone sometimes.

Currently have a '12 Platinum that's getting up there, at 260k (161k miles).

I think Nissan Connect (a subscription) allowed for that. But I believe it relied on the now defunct 3G network to perform its tasks...

It did stop working for vehicles that had 3G telematics. Nissan Connect services including the subscription options still exist (you can only get access to certain features and subscription options based on the trim you have) though. Only on model year that has 4G telematics. Just not sure if the 2018 had 3G telematics or 4G

I just checked my '19 Connect manual. It states it works with both 3g/4g.

However. I checked a '15 and an '18 Connect manual, neither mentions 3g/4g... I wonder if this means they may have added 4g starting with the '19 model year?

Yeah I suspect 4G may not be on any model year older than 2019. Maybe 2018 but not sure. A search isn’t really answering the question so I suggest contacting Nissan directly to ask or asking where ever this one is being purchased from.

I really miss having the Nissan Connect. Was great when we were in the mall Christmas shopping and was able to heat the car up long before we got to it.

4G is only on the '19 and up. It was changed when they changed head unit manufacturer to Bosh.

I've been wondering for a while now if it is possible to upgrade the earlier Murano's TCU to get 4G.

So my questions are:

The easiest would be to simply change out the SIM card for a 4G card, if it's not soldered to the board. Goin thru the AV.pdf TCU section there are instructions on checking TCU functionality. Nissan's CONSULT is needed to make configuration changes when replacing the TCU unit, along with calls to Nissan's connect service and Sirus to get full functionality back.

Are the newer TCU's compatible with the pre '19 year models that allow a direct swap? Hard to tell, the Bosh may have different requirement for the audio input from the TCU. That's a hard one to answer considering they changed the head unit wiring at the same time and the TCU speaks thru the head unit. Again, it still needs to be configured by Nissan's CONSULT software.

If anyone has a solid answer, speak up. I may pull my TCU and try to pop it apart to check what's on the internal board.

Have a good day.
