My vote (and $) went to the Valentine One (1994 version) when I got my 1995 Maxima GLE in fall 1994. Driven 192,xxx miles in that car, then moved it to my 00 Maxima SE in fall 1999. Driven 140,xxx miles then moved to the 03 Murano SE in summer 2003. Now at 29,xxx miles in the MO.

No tickets, in right at 10 years and 360,xxx miles driven.

They have a 30 day money back guarantee so they're pretty convinced that if they can get you to try it, you won't be able to give it up at the end of the test drive.

They also have a upgrade program that allows you to basically send in your old unit and they'll send you a new one, right off the assembly line for a significantly reduced price. (In my case for $200, ten years later.)

I'm sure others will have other opinions and suggestions for you but personally, based on my actual experience, I wouldn't drive anywhere without my V1.

I've had great results with my Bell Vector 985. I'll try to post a picture the it came with a visor mount that I fit nicely into the headliner that holds it in place.

Reviews say the Valentine!1is the most sensitive but also falses a lot, the Bell 985 and the Escort (latest version 8500 I think) come in very close second but with less falsing. The rear view portion of the Valentine is of less use for a SUV and dark rear tint. For Laser Look at Jammers as most effective. Laser decetion has a harder time due to the small spot size and jammers are always on so that is a positive. Do a Google and search Detectors vs jamers for both radar and laser seperately. GRIP :D

I'm a fan of the Passport 8500. Had the V1 and some really bad issues with their customer service (or lack thereof). It was a nice detector, but didn't work properly in my old car (94 Camaro). I nearly had to take the company to small claims court, but my bank, through which I charged the purchase, took care of it for me. Long story short - thanks to my well-documented case, the bank investigator ruled in my favor and I got my money back.

8500 is a very good one, but.... V1 is da bomb !!! :6:

And about false alarms... it only does it on the X band as all of the radar detectors do and the X band is no longer being used by the cops. So what you do is you program your V1 not to use X at all and the rest works SUPER !!!

P.S. Can you disable bands in other radars as V1 let's you ?!

Yes I can

I love my Bel RX65. I rarely get false alarms and it is the most sensitive detector that I've ever had.

And yes, I can disable individual bands (but I haven't needed to).:D

I've had great results with my Bell v985... two great things... very very few false alarms and it has voice. OK OK I was suspicous about voice but you know I love. I've actually turned off the display, with the voice I don't have to look at it and I can keep my eyes on the road. And yes I can also prevent indivual bands AND it will also mout upside down as the screen will invert itself.
