Tony,

As god as my witness, the 300ZX is my all time, gotta have it favorite car. Black, T-roof, twin-turbo, 5 speed, leather, bose stereo. My wife even knows that, to a tee.

I have no idea what you posted, as I can't stop looking at the picture of the car on your signature....DAMN, that is a hot set of wheels! Please tell me that is yours....

I see your point, I have been doing it for years the hard way. I still have to do it on the Z since it is a 1990, and I actually have to get in the floor board and mess with the ECU. However, I think a scan tool is very useful in diagnosing issues. Some folks may not be as skilled as others who can turn the car off, then turn it on, jump on one leg while patting their heads, rubbing their stomachs, and singing Jingle Bells. Oh wait...was that a long flash or a short flash.

Its just quick, simple, universal, and very convienent. Plug it in, hit "Read" see the code, hit "Clear", done deal. I will compare it to my new ratcheting wrenches. Yeah I could get by using the traditional style wrench, but I greatly prefer to use the ratcheting style because its quicker and easier. Bah! call me lazy.

Not to mention that there are cheaper versions, I just got one that gives the explaination of what the alpha-numeric code means.
Tony,

which tool do you have. I have done some research on the Internet but there are so many.....and I do not trust the "hype" of each site..

code 0303

Anyone have any idea what code P0303 is for? I was hoping for the simple gas cap flash, but no. Any ideas?

As it turns out, P0303 is a misfire code. MO is currently sitting in a Nissan bay awaiting a new fuel injector in cylinder 3. The faulty injector was leaking. Initially a fuel system pressure test was done because of hard starting problems, so Nissan changed the fuel pump. With no success in better starting and a check engine light to boot (1 week later) and further dismantling of the engine, a leak was found at the injector. I hope this fixes the hard start!

New code for me - 0011

I'm posting in this thread to try to keep some of the SES stuff together.

In the last 100 miles of an otherwise uneventful 1000 mile drive up and down the left side of the country my SES light came on. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. When I got home I checked the code and it turned out to be 0011.

I looked through the forum and couldn't find that... seems to me I recall seeing a list somewhere - couldn't find it. I did find: List on some other forum - but it isn't specifically Murano.

Supposing that is a generic Nissan code and I use that other list, 0011 means: INT/V TIM CONT-B1. And THAT means... I have no idea what that means. Any clues?

Car is at 57K. New battery 3 weeks ago. Had my alternator recall about 7k ago plus a new cat conv. No other current issues or complaints.

I'm thinking I might reset it and see if it happens again.

Thanks,

Dave!

At 57K miles your engine is still under factory warranty. I would have dealer check it...
Right... so I jump in my car today (I did reset the light) and am driving it. Under load (a hill or heavy acceleration) there is a TON of chatter out of the engine. I must have been super-tired last night not to notice.

Then it dawns on me - V TIM - valve timming. What I'm hearing could totally be called valve chatter. Damn, why'd I reset that light, I should just take it in now.

Wait, I'm 5800 miles into this oil change - I was low the last couple of times... duh. I get my oil changed - the super-techincal JiffyLube report says 1+ quarts low. It's silent now and happy. I bet that's all it was.

I usually do my oil every 6000 miles which equates to every other month. (I drive a lot) But perhaps with these last 3 changes being low I should decrease that interval.

Sheesh.

There is an issue. It should not be low at all.

I say that everyone should invest $200 on a scan tool. It will work on any car that is 1996 or newer and it will probably pay itself off in either time or money within the first few months of owning it.

I went to Ebay and saw them at $55 plus $10 s&h, looks like a good deal!!

Not used, brand new scanners

Just go to www.ebay.com and search "SCANNER CODE" and you get it......

good luck

Well folks - 5000 posts later my SES has come on! I tried to pull the code but cannot get the SES to blink in diagnostic mode - my guess is that accelerator position sensor has gone off the deep end (the service manual says a malfunction there prevents entering diagnostic mode). Taking it to the dealer tomorrow since I can't pull the code.

It had to happen sometime I guess.

For piece of mind I say pull your own code. I just don't trust anyone I guess. You can even pick one up at harbor freight for $40. (not that I have or recommend that one)

I don't have a scan tool and I couldn't pull the code using the gas pedal trick as specified in the FSM. I've pulled codes on the Murano before, but this time it refuses to get into Diagnostic Mode. The FSM does say that if there is a problem with the accelerator position switch, you cannot enter diagnostic mode. That's my guess as to the cause of the light. I had to go back to the office tonight, took the MO. SES stayed on. But the MO drove fine. Hope it makes it through tomorrow morning when I drop it off at the $tealership.

Surprise - it was an evap leak. They told me they "reprogrammed" the ECU and told me it would be $200. TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS to reprogram the ECU? I complained and they covered it under warranty.

Also had my transfer and rear diff serviced - at least now the bolts should be loose enough for me to do it myself next time.

At 3-1/2 years and 36,700 miles, they also told me:

1) dirty power steering fluid - LOL, I changed this at 30k

2) drive belts "starting to crack" - aka there is nothing wrong with them

3) "your fuel injectors are dirty" - I asked, so did you pull one out and look at it - they gave me a blank look

4) "your front tires are wearing differently than the rear" - duh, its a mostly FWD vehicle

Needless to say, I did not have any of these unnecessary services performed

sorry, new to this forum and didn't see this sticky. Tried the access sequence mentioned previously on my 06 murano, but was unable to get a readout on the dash. my loving wife never lets me drive this car, so i have no idea when it happened, she says right at 12K miles. the gas gauge is almost full, so I suspect it was filled recently, so i tightened the gas cap. notice all the access sequences in this forum is primarily from '03 murano's. did it change or did nissan figure out we were smarter then the dealers and removed the option, requiring us to go to the dealer?

My '03 Murano has 95,000+ miles on it and today the SES light came on. I took it to AutoZone and they said the code read PO420.

Since I'm beyond the 80k mile warranty what kind of cost can I be looking at to fix this.

I should also mention that my Airbag light is BACK on after replacing the airbag module a month ago. I'm scheduled to see the dealer next week about the airbag light. I believe they said they were going to have to replace the entire airbag this time... good grief!

When it rains it pours... first the airbag now the SES light. Does this mean the Murano is lemon after 90k miles?!?

SES codes

I have an 04 that I have put 111,000 miles on. Last year I was in NM for about 10 months and got SES light on and checked at Auto Zone. It was gas. It came and went several times over a few months and then just stayed on. Lo and behold when I returned to AZ (and a different gas formulation) it went off. Last week it came on again and this time it is 0420. Using different gas hasn't helped. I assume I am screwed because A) I have to go to the dealer (previous trips make me feel this way and B) it is out of warranty (I just read).
