hi guys, i have a question about Nissans' recommended serivce maintenance.

i have an 04 mo. had it since feb of 04

i hardly drive it cause we have a few cars in the household.

i've put on 4500km since feb.

had the regular oil and filter change every 3-4 months.

nissan wants me to do the 6 months/12000km maintenance 1 package.

*Relace engine oil/filter (a must do)
*Lubricate Locks, Latches, and hinges (not so sure if its a must)
*Ajust drive belts and inspect conditions(???)
*Rotate tires (recommended at at 6000km (i have less than 4500km)
*Multi-point inspection (???)
*Road Test (???)

Nissan states this is highly recommended to satisfy warranty requirements. All for a cost of just about $300.00 Canadian

Did all you mo owners do this maintenance package or is this
a pile of money grabbing BS i'm getting from my dealer.

I don;t think i really have to do this since there is less than 4500 kms on the mo.

your thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Sorry for the language........in my opinion it is BS.........I would change oil and filter.....and that's it. Everything else on the list is for dealer easy profit. Takes 5 min except tire rotation (i.e. if they do it at all!).

just my2c..........

thanks kris.

i have the extended warranty, can they deny any future claims
by saying that i didn't follow their warranty recommendations?
i know is a money grab, but also don't want it to come back and bite me later.

does any of you guys follow nissans recommended service schedule?

i find it stupid to do a 12000kn maintenance when mo has only 4500km.

muranosl,

I too have extended warranty - 100k miles/5 years. I took it only because of CVT. Anyway, I had dealer do 1st (free of charge) and 2nd oild change (put syntchetic oil) + tire rotation. Since then I do oil changes myself. I do document all the work. I keep all the receipts from shops as well as invoices from Nissan just in case there is an warranty issue. In addition to the two oil changes I have taken the MO to the dealer for two repairs: CVT control unit and brakes turning.

Anyway, I have attached 3 pages from 2003 service manual. Look at them carefuly. You will see that there is almost nothing at 12k kms. I had a small chat with service advisors at the dealership. They will always tell you: yers, Nissan recommends it but you kow how it is. I do not mind paying for a good serivce. In this instance however, I believe it is simply trying to get your money.

Hope it helps.

The "recommended" dealer service is a rip off. Follow the recommendations in your owners manual and you will be fine.
