Anyone else having problems with their brakes squeaking? Mine has been doing it for awhile every time I pull out of the garage in the morning. Read the same thing on freshalloy.com but nobody seems to have heard about any fix on this.

No, I have not had this problem. If it's only in the morning, then perhaps it's moisture on the discs or rust that developed over night.

Agreed. This is not uncommon on many vehicles, especially if the discs are dirty. Road dust accumlates on the discs and calipers and can cause a little bit of squeal. It is most pronounced in the morning because any moisture will have "glued" the dust in place on the disc, and when you back up it gets trapped under the pads.

Unless it happens ALOT, and for more than just the first time of the day, I wouldn't be too concerned.

My Murano also has squeaky brakes, I took it to the nissan dealer and a Mechanic, they said it is because of raod dust, new metalic brakes (new to market) and also due to the fact that the brakes are Hydraulic which could cause the back brakes to tighten ever so slightly when vehicle has been sitting more more than a couple of hours.

I experienced the same thing up until recently when I had new tires put on. They would only squeak in the morning when I backed out of the garage. I'm inclined to agree with everyone that it's nothing to be concerned about. :)

Lottsa easy goin folks back then.

Me too.
If Nissan will refund about 10 to 15 thousand dollars I will be easy going and forgiving too.
That would put the Murano in Hyundai land and one could not complain if their cheap little Hyundai had sqeaky brakes could they?
Oh they could? You mean just because other cheap cars have disc brakes that don't squeal? And BTW Hyundai brakes don't squeal either...............

I thought everybody was making a bit much of this until it started on my Brakes.
I thought it was probably a fairly restrained "Eeek"
but it is not.
It is more like EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKK!
Quite long and quite loud. Very high pitched.

Some of it is caused by the fact that I don't jam the brakes, therefore I am gradually applying the brakes for 2-3 seconds. So the SQUEAL is 2-3 seconds.
And Bert, my neighbor across the street, looked up when it happened.
And laughed.
And told me later that I should have kept my old car.

And he has a point.

Nissan doesn't know how to build brakes that don't squeal?
There are several car companys that could teach them.

The dealer will fix this this or Nissan will sure as hell get some bad press around here.
If It was a "one off" I wouldn't be bothered so much. I would assume it was a temporary condition. But over at FA, many people have it.
So it is not a "one off" of brakedust, humidity in Florida, etc.
But why not all?

NO ONE has broken their brakes in more carefully than me.
And so I wonder if that has something to do with it?

In any event, the dealer will be given his chance.
This will be the first new car to be returned in warranty to the dealer, for any reason, in the last 3 cars.

Sure hope they can fix it.

More of a Grind

I have a pronounced grind noise that seems to come from the right front. Dealer checked it out and said that it was dust. Sounds worse when backing out of a parking spot or the garage.

Thinking about taking the garden hose to it when I wash the car.

Mine does the same.... first thing in the morning.... I pull forward (back in the night before) and I get about 3 sqeaks and then thats about it. I'm not worried as it stops on its on and I don't hear anything when braking.

That dealer/mechanics comments about hydraulic brakes is :bsflag: ... the front are hydraulic and they don't have an issue of "getting tighter" after sitting for a couple of hours.... please!

Well Gonzo that's interesting.
Mainly because I pull into my garage and it's when I'm backing out after a period of time that it gives with it's serenade.

So it appears to be either going forward or backing up.
First braking after it has been run and sets for awhile.
It isn't just the morning.

There doesn't appear to be a TSB for this.
Not good.
There obviously has been some problems in this area and it would appear that the factory has not come up with a fix.

I know that this used to be a problem YEARS ago.
The Vette came out with "sintered" brake linings back in the 70s I'm thinking.
They came to be known as Semi-Metallic.
The "fix" was no good.
The Chevy dealer would smear some kind of crap on them and they would be OK.
For awhile.
Of course they would smear the stuff on over and over under warranty.
The long term fix that took a long time to work out was new Brake pads by a different manufacturer.

That wouldn't seem likely here because surely, this being 2003 and all, Nissan must have built semi metallic brakes before, and they must have tested them extensively, right?

esemes, I don't think every car gets this problem. And I can't explain that at all.
But no need getting upset until it happens.

Besides, if this goes the way I think it will, I will get upset enough for both of us.

thanks homer.....

i think.........

i am tempted to jump to the brembo rotors sooner than i had planned, with a organic pad to boot.....

that'll sure fix this issue, and isnt too expensive (brembo's auto lineup is actually alot cheaper than their offerings for sportbikes!!)

hf - I get the same long eeekkkk the first thing in the morning when backing out & down my drive way. It's really embarrissing.:(
I though I had read this would eventually go away, but still no luck at 8k miles.
I guess I will have to have my rear window squeek & my brake eeek checked on my next visit.

But it's not as obnoxoius as my neighbors fatboy with shorties firing up at 5:50 am each morning! :D

Squeeky Brakes

MY MO is in the shop today for this issue. The prognosis: The rear left disk is "glazed" due to overheating. This is the second time in for the problem, and after a little persuasion the dealer replaced the disk. No more problem.

glazed

I MAY have been hitting it them hard lately but for the $$ for this vehicle I shouldn't hear a thing for a long time!!!

I asked about the "re-glaze" and his response is thier looking into it...boy, that's definitive!!

This is my third Nissan and the only one with this problem. I hit my 02 Maxima way harder on a daily basis!

Well, we'll see.
I have baby'd these brakes as I always do when breaking in a car.
If I hear glazed..................:(

After a good breakin, it should hardly be possible to glaze the pads at <> 3500 miles.

and the left REAR brake?????

This sounds like the new brake apportioning system may have a problem. Brake Apportioning used to be a mechanical valve. Nissan had a better idea and this is done electronically on the Murano.

Now THAT I could believe, AND it would be (eventually) fixable.

Well good news is that if it is a solid sqeak you don't have warped rotors... if it sqeaks on and off and gets worse as you increase speed I bet you've got warped rotors.
