I was getting out of the MO this evening and noticed a squeek/creak from the left rear wheel well. I put my head down near the tire and rock the MO and I could create the noise.

Any idea what it could be?

Thanks in Advance

It's the emergency brake. The pads rubbing up against the disc when you exit the vehicle. Remove the E.B. and the noise will go away.

no big deal......mine has the same noise.

Yeah its the emergency brake. I always park with the emergency brake engaged - its not a good idea to park without it, even on flat terrain - don't want to put too much pressure on the parking pawl.

Ahh, thats a relief.

Thought I bent the damn axle or something getting out of the car.

Thanks All

Thanks for the responses.

About the parking pawl. We live in a hilly area and I was told to put the car in neutral, apply the parking brake and then put it in park. Hopefully this reduces the strain on the pawl.

I am originally from San Francisco, and know that trick well. It really works.

What's a "parking pawl"?
Its the actual mechanical mechanism in the transmission which prevents your vehicle from rolling when in park.
