Does anyone know if it is possible to start in 2nd gear when in manual shifting mode?
I wanted to do it this past winter (after stopping at traffic light on slippery roads), but it does not allow me to shift to 2nd while the car is immobile. I was able to do it in my Ford EDGE, which MO replaced.
My wife's Cadillac has Winter mode, which actually starts in 2nd gear automatically.
Seems like MO can't do it either automatically or manually.

My experience is that all Muranos in DRIVE start in a higher ratio (like second). The only way you can get the low ratio FIRST is in LO or 1 if you have the manual selector.
You skeptics; if you don't believe me, try it....

I don't know enough to confirm the above but to answer the original post... I have not been able to start mine in 2nd while in manual mode. It won't allow it. So I'm assuming it's the same for all.

Thanks, guys. I wonder how to check the ratio when starting in Auto and in Manual (to verify higher ratio in Auto). I think the CVTz50 app can show this?

This seems like a moot point.

The goal of a CVT is NOT to let you mess with the drive ratio. There aren't any gears, and it's not designed to give you an option when moving from a stop. It's the transmission for those who don't want to shift. They do give you the ability to move from Drive down to lower ratios, but only when you're already moving. Those different ratios are programmed into the car's computers.

Might be interesting to see what the drive ratios are, but it wouldn't be something the operator could change when moving from a stop.

Yes, the CVTz50 app does display the information you're looking for.

Tried CVTz50 app. In both modes (auto and manual shifting), it starts with gear ratio 2.53:1. So, doesn't look like I can start at a lower ratio on a slippery road like Ford Edge allowed me (or any car that has a winter/snow mode for automatic transmission). No big deal. Will be able to live with it.

Put it in "snow" mode. Oh, wait...we don't have drive modes, either. Bummer!
It's funny you should mention that. I was looking into the FSM for something to cure my 1000 rpm drone when cruising around town (I didn't find anything...) However, in the 2015 FSM TM section it does mentions the following interesting OBD items: ECO MODE, SPORT MODE, SNOW MODE, and NORMAL MODE. However, it also mentions they are always set to OFF.

I asked the CVTz50 developer about them yesterday, he mentioned that there isn't any information on them yet... Too bad, they look interesting. They are on/off items. Maybe someone adventurous may want to play with them? It would require sending a custom command via the CVTz50 app (which I am in the process of learning how to do...) I'm not quite willing to experiment with my new Murano yet though...

BTW, I sent my first email to the CVTz50 developer yesterday, and he promptly replied. I think that's pretty awesome to get such great support for this bargain priced app!

Please, do share when/if you become adventurous to try it. :)
