In the last few days I have noticed a creaking in the front left wheel area. It only happens when the front rises up and drops down again during acceleration. It doesn't happen over bumps.

I'm hoping with all the crud on the roads its just a matter of a lube job.

Never heard of an issue there... are you turning the wheel at the same time? There is an issue with a loose bolt that can cause a noise to be heard when turning the wheel.

Nope, Just as I described it. It's due its first service, so I'll have the Nissan goon squad check it out.

You might check to see if the transmission cooling shield has been hit, and is pushed back to just barely contact the transmission.

I had a noise that I was sure was a bearing squeal when I came to a stop at idle - it turned out that I had pranged the shield on a parking curb just prior and the engine/transmission would shift just enough on the motor mounts to scrape the shield.

Removing, realigning, and reinstallation of the shield eliminated the noise.
