Today I notice the needle was just below the halfway point, normally its in the middle of the gauge. Once I got back home I noticed the overflow tank was empty. I couldn’t wait for the car to cool so I grabbed a towel and opened the radiator cap, there was no pressure or steam and there was fluid all the way to the top. The car had been driven 10 to 15 miles and temp is in mid 80s today. Any ideas?

I'd say next time, wait for it to cool. You'd know more if you had waited for the coolant to contract.

If there was no pressure, then something's not right. If you're really lucky, it's a bad radiator cap, but that's unlikely since it should have filled the burp tank unnecessarily.

This seems like a perfect setup for a leak-down test to see where the coolant went and why you didn't have pressure in the radiator. Hopefully it's not a head gasket.

Take a good look around the engine and under the car for green trails.
