Hey guys...
I've had my 06 Murano SL (Touring, NAV, VDC, Platinum/Cafe) for almost a month now and loving it so far. Been very happy with the Nav system.

I have a friend that was SO impressed with the Nav system in my Murano, he wants to buy a portable one, but wants to know who makes the system for Nissan. I would think it might be one of the big names in GPS units: Garmin, TomTom, etc?

Does anyone know what third party mfr makes the Nav system for Nissan? I doubt auto mfrs are developing their own.

Thanks in advance.

Zenrin makes the DVDs, I don't remember who makes the hardware I think sanyo. This topic has been covered many times, also see these threads off the top:

If you want integrated NAV then get it when you buy the car, much more expensive to install it later. Probably cheaper to trade in and get a new one that has it already. OEM integrated NAV has it's advantages but a couple drawbacks is the map content/detail and operation while moving. The 3rd party navigation units have better map content and you can operate their controls while moving. To this day my Magellan has more detailed maps then nissan zenrin, and I have the latest updates for the zenrin but not the Magellan. Still I like the OEM NAVI because it's built in, integrated into the stereo and DVD based. I have to download map areas or regions into the Magellan. I also sometimes need to use different coordinate systems and the 3rd party units excel at that.

Thanks for the info and link about the Nav system. There seems to be quire a few residential areas in NJ that the system still cannot find and it is annoying since I live in NJ. =)

I see there has been one updated disk since my release. I am waiting to see if a 2007 version comes out since the last update was October of last year and it is almost a year old already. $200 for the update is a little pricey though. Google maps is free. =)

At least the DVDs are not copy protected so I can make backups of the disk. I use a copy in my Murano so the original stays pristine.
