Intelli-Key + washing Machine = bad

Ok, so I left the spare intelli-key in my shorts pocket and my wife tossed them in the washing machine. We didn't realize this until the Murano went into "panic" mode with the horn and lights going on and off...

Looking for an intelli-key in a washing machine full of clothes and water is NOT fun, FYI.

So, we found it and I was able to push the panic button on it to make it stop. But, the water inside the remote kept making it go off.

So, took it apart to let it dry out. I let it sit over night and put it back together this afternoon and it's now dead. So, I replace the battery..still dead. Doesn't do squat. The buttons dont' work and the Murano doesn't recognize that the remote is in the car when I try to turn the ignition.

Am I screwed? Does it just need to be reprogrammed or is it now a paperweight?

Thanks!

I hate when that happens.

It depends on what happened as it dried, but it sounds like it's toasted.

For future reference, this article details how to deal with laptops that get something spilled on them. The rules should mostly apply for any electronics, including the Intell. Key.

Basically, they say to take out the battery and rinse the part in tap water to get any sugars and dirt (or soap, in your case) off. Then rinse it in distilled water to get the dissolved solids from the tap water off. Let it dry for a long time (1 weekish), and then try it again.

Grim-

Have you considered bringing the intelli-key to your saleman and telling him it simply stopped working? Of course, I would not mention the Maytag episode. With any luck the dealer may replace it for free. It's worth a shot.

Actually, I have not considered that until just now..lol thanks for the idea.

My wife is taking it in to the dealer tomorrow for an oil change, tire rotation and some state inspections (time to renew the license plates already).

I'll tell her to bat her eyelashes and give it a shot. haha

btw, it was a maytag...:D
