My second Murano, same issue as first not enough heat. I live in the north east and this morning it was 18 degrees Fahrenheit. it takes for ever for this car to warm up with it set to 90. I can't understand why I can't close the recycle air with the heat on so I'm sucking in 18 degree air trying to make it 90. I was wondering if a different thermostat would help.

It's been in the low 20's/upper teens here in Georgia a few days and I have not had a problem with the MO warming up. Usually after less than 10 minutes the engine is warm enough for the heater to come on (auto, set at 72). This is going from the transit parking garage, which is like a big heat sucking black hole cave. Also, I go right out onto the highway, so it's not a lot of idling.

I, too, am dismayed that I can't set recirculate without engaging the A/C compressor. I've noticed other intermittent odd behavior with the climate control settings. For instance, yesterday I couldn't set it on auto and to blow out of both the bottom and top vents. Whenever I set the top vents on, auto would go off. When I set top and bottom vents on and then pressed auto, it would revert to just the bottom vents. Then I stopped at Target and when I came out I was able to do it. :-/

Just remember, it's like the thermostat in the house - turning it up doesn't make it get hot any faster. The system still opens up when the engine coolant warms. It takes a while for the coolant to get up to full operating temp - for the first few minutes, it's just barely warm enough to start up the interior heater.

I find that turning the fan all the way down for the first 5 minutes and using the seat heaters helps keep passengers from getting chilled by the initial cold air...then it is nice and toasty. The warm-up is no different than any other car I have owned in the northeast - especially when parking outside overnight.

I have to agree with the original poster. The Murano's climate control isn't as good as other vehicles. The cool air takes too long in the summer, and the hot air takes too long in the winter. When the maximum temperatures/flow are achieved they still aren't nearly comparable to other vehicles.

I have a VW Jetta Diesel that warms up quicker and better than the MO, it also has a better cooling system in the summer. The VW also has a 5 level heated seat which is nice compared to the MO's too slow and too hot, or "is it on?" setting. I drive a Ford for work and it is better in both realms as well.

But in saying all this I still love my MO!

I agree as well... the heated seats only cover half of your butt and it gets too hot to use anyway. The heater does not get hot enough even with a fully warmed up motor. Another fail for this car. At least the rattle in the tail gate takes your mind off of it somewhat.

I have always felt the MO's heater to be merely adequate for the relatively mild New Jersey winters. It is obvious it would be severely taxed when the mercury dipped below 0F.

The worst heater I ever had was on a 70 MG Midget. It's anemic heater was all but useless when the temps dropped to freezing. I recall one memorable road trip where I was forced to wrap myself in a sleeping bag to stay warm while driving in sub-zero temps. My breath used to freeze on the inside of the windshield. It was brutal.

On the flip side, I had a Hyundai Sonata that pumped out heat within a minute of turning-over. It had a manual climate control that was never set past the mid-point during the winter months. I am not sure what made that cooling system unique, but I wish Nissan had incorporated some of the design.

Ok, it was 12F degrees this morning and I timed the heat warm-up.
3 minutes until warm air was coming out the vents
5 minutes until car was "at temp" and hot air was circulating.

I find this to be in the realm of acceptable given how cold it was. Maybe the newer models have different system?

Haha! I agree, I have that same rattle and it's amazing how one small thing can be so annoying. I have no clue where it's coming from inside the tail gate either :28:
Well at least you didn't buy a new latch only to find out that it wasn't the latch making the noise! I have yet to pin point the noise, new latch and all.. my next thought is to use a spray on sound deadner and spray everything back there and hope that does the fix... will advise.. once that is fixed then I tackle the other 10 rattles I have

Make sure the spray is compatible with plastic. The outer shell of the liftgate is not metal, it is a plastic of some kind.

I don't think your rattles are related to lack of heat post. I guess some MO's have heat and some don't. I was in the car last night and if you put your hand right at the point of exit the temp is luke warm at best.
