2004 AC question

Goodday All,

I've noticed since I've owned my MO that the AC sucks in our 04. Our 06 blows really hard, where our 04 is cranked up and it sounds like it is blowing hard; however, the air flow coming out is weak.

To give you an example, we have to turn the AC up half way just to feel decent air circulation. If we turn our 06 up half way it blows us away.

I did some searches. And couldn't find what I'm looking for. Hopefully, someone has had this problem or hope there is a TSB with details.

This may be a stupid question, but someone has to ask it... did you check the cabin air filter?

Not a stupid question, but I did change it out last summer thinking it would help. It did not.

It does this no matter the setting, defrost, floor, upper vents, etc. so this would rule out a clog I think. A weak or bad blower maybe?

AC in my 04 SE has worked perfectly since the day I bought it (10/04) and is plenty strong (almost) 7 1/2 years and 98K miles later.

Yea it blows. Old, but just feels restricted. Imagine trying to push a large amount of air though a straw vs something less restrictive. It just feels overworked with little reward for the passengers. I wold get it looked at but really don't to pay someo e $80 bucks to take a peak. So I'm checking for ideas here first.

I suggest verifying the fan motor is working on all speeds. Using the manual fan speed control, start out on the low setting and slowly increase the fan speed. See if you notice an increase in output with each indicated increase in fan speed.

Also, it's possible that one of the internal control doors is not opening properly so the air is getting partially blocked.

My thoughts exactly. Air direction system not working well.

If that's the case, it could be a vacuum line that has fallen off an actuator or gotten knocked loose.

i feel your pain, during the summer my a/c in my 04 mo has to stay on high all the time just to keep the cabin cool if not my kids start saying they are hot in the back seat, and with the center vents pointed in their direction you can't even feel it blow.

it is also that way on al the other settings.

NJJOE,

I did the internal properly and all systems checked out OK.
Probably a design flaw that was corrected by the time 06's were rolled out.

BBeckley, I feel you pain. Summers are brutal in the MO. All lines and hoses are secure from what I could tell.

Have you tried to draw air in from the outside and compare with recirculating the cabin air? Do both options barely push out air?

Also try it with the heater on with and without AC. Just vents only. AC only.

yeah i have tried all that in my quest to try and figure this monster out, unfortunatly i have yet to find a solution.

Did anyone find the source of this issue? I have the same problem now too. The blower seems to be working cause I can hear it, but barely any air is coming out of the vent. If I turn it off for about 20 mins, it'll work again.
