Divx will work for you, it must. But, it needs to be compliant to the standard. You see any old avi file won't do, it might be an xvid avi file so you need to be sure it's a divx avi file. Now I haven't tested to see what versions of divx it works with, I just re-encoded some files to test it and I used the current version of divx to convert them and it works fine. I'm not sure if anything else will play I'll need to find again where I read it, probably in the service manual or owners manual someplace.

Good luck getting help from Nissan about it, what's the bet the goon that answers your email is the chick on the reception counter who wouldn't know a divx file if it bit her on the ass. ;)

Hey Piggy

Thanks for the help. Your file worked great. I discovered the file I tried was a .mkv not a .divx

I downloaded a file converter with a 15 day free trial. Do you know of any that are totally free that work?

I also discovered that .jpg files can be shown individually or with a slide show if you go thru settings, others. I sure don't remember reading anything about this stuff in the nav or owner's manual. Wouldn't you think they would provide a list of file formats the box can read?

It may be hard to believe but they did, indeed, put file format specs in the owner's manual. Here's a sampling:

Only files that meet the following conditions will be displayed.
— Image type: JPEG
— File Extensions: *.jpg, *jpeg

— Maximum Resolution: 2048
x 1536 pixels
— Maximum Size: 2-MB
— Colors: 32768 (15-bit)

To me, this is one of those features that's fun to demo to your friends but has very little real world application. I mean, if I want to show photos, I just pull out my smart phone.

Ya Whino, I sent a pm with a link to a converter. Divx pro is a pretty crap converter but at least it's guaranteed to conform to the divx standard. Myself I just use the 'home theatre' profile which gives a good enough quality with a smallish file size. (good enough for the small screen in the car). I note the car will also play asf files, not that too many people use that format much anymore, if ever.

I use the memory stick for music videos not movies. I'd say movies would be better done with dvd's because you can fast forward/reverse or jump chapters whereas I don't think you can do that with files on a usb stick.

Good luck with it.

Divx. ;) (works for me)
I see you are in Sydney and looking at your avatar picture it seems that you have the exact same Murano as me, so in theory we should be able to play the same video files.

Just to make sure we are comparing the same thing, we are talking about playing files through the USB input in the center console on the main display on the dashboard which also shows navigation and other funtions normally, not a separate system like some of the headrest or roof mounted video systems.

I have been trying all sorts of different video formats and NOTHING will play at all so far. I have tried a number of different formats of divx, avi, mp4, mpg, flv, mkv and more, in both PAL and NTSC format, with varying bitrates and resolution, but still nothing.

I would love to know the exact specifications of a file that does play in your system if you could share?

Thank you,

Craig
