I bought an 09 murano going on second oil change now. I traded in my H2 for it so far my wife is happy. Im going to switch to Royal Purple (everything) due to some weird rear diff noise clicking crazyness. Before doing so Im going test my rpms at 65 and check my city/hwy mpg and of course the ole ear test on engine/diff noise. Just ordered everything. Stand by for results.

Welcome and congratz on the MO!

I like the Royal purple change - and leaving the OEM oil in the CVT.

About 15 bucks for a 5 qt jug at Walmart:D

I have never heard of Royal Purple. What is it?
It's an expensive 100% fully synthetic motor oil. Mobil1 (which is what I use), isn't actually a fully synthetic oil.....however it's been working fine for me for years.

I just changed my oil today. I used one of my 5 qt jugs. I have 4 more in the garage. I just looked again to make sure and it says advanced FULL synthetic right on front. Why do you say otherwise?

Yeah I know. It's a legal symantics game. Legally they can call it synthetic however it's actually a group III and not a true group IV motor oil. In basic terms, Mobil1 is a "synthetic" oil but has a mineral oil base. Does that really matter? Not to me.

someone mentioned a differential on there 09 murano does the 07 have
a diferential? or does he mean transfer case.? that's separate from the cvt trans.?
Of course it has a differential - every vehicle made does. In some it's a rear diff, in some it's a component of a front transaxle, and in 4WD vehicles there's an additional differential between the front and rear wheels to allow differences in rotational rates.

And yes, a differential is separate from the CVT. So is a transfer case. Those are all discrete functions which are carried out in most cases by separate assemblies, although they may be bolted together into one assembly.

So where is the diferential found on a 07 murano .?
One is a function of the front transaxle, there's one between the front and rear drive wheels (that would be the one which the lock button controls), and one on the rear axle.

For specifics, it would be most helpful to search this forum for a link to a downloadable factory service manual so you can look at specific assemblies.

If I have details of the setup incorrect, I invite others on the forum to correct me.

Not all 4x4 vehicles have center differentials, including the murano, it has a coupler in front of the rear diff that connects and disconnects the rear axle depending on a number variables, including the position of the lock switch, front axle traction and more.

Cheers

David
