I bought my 2012 Nissan Murano used a few years ago. The problem that I now have noticed is that the CVT transmission surges under the following conditions:
- when the car has been running for longer than 1/2 hour;
- at speeds greater than 65 mph
- generally, when accelerating uphill;
- the tachometer reads less than 2000 rpm prior to the surge;
- at outdoor temperatures in excess of 75 degrees.

I have installed an external transmission cooler and had the transmission fluid flushed with the filter being replaced. I have taken it to a dealer and a "mom and pop" repair shop. They both seem baffled. The check engine light does not come on and there are no codes to report.

Could this be an overdrive issue? ...or a sensor issue? Or could this be the start of an inevitable failing transmission. The vehicle currently sits at 113,000 miles.

Did that work for you?
Hard to say. In daily driving it's hard to replicate as I'm always stuck behind slow drivers. I think it had some impact but i'm not sure that's a fix.

From what I've searched, I believe you need to drop the CVT pan (after draining the initial 5QTs), swap the stepper motor from a donor car, or junk yard CVT, which is located right when you remove the pan. Then seal her back up (new gasket usually if old one is bad) and go from there.

That's what I've read given the CVT it's the stepper motor and nothing else.

I ordered a used one from a wrecked car, and when the time comes that the problem becomes very noticeable, then I'll go through this process.
