I enjoyed this forum a lot during my ownership of a 2010, 2016 and 2020 Murano's but the time has come to say so long. After much aggravation with the 2020, dealership(s), and Nissan Customer Service I have traded out of the 2020. One issue, and it may seem petty to some, is that having upgraded to a 2020 I found the maps were from 2017 and it seems that's as far was they have gone. I tried to get the dealer to update, they refer me to Nissan, Nissan CS knows nothing and you go around in circles. Apparently no one seems to know it should be an over the air update but I've done that and have gotten as far as 2017.4.

I'm sad to say I've found Nissan quality slipping. My 2020 has visited the dealer more in three months than either model did the entire time I had them. The 2010 was the most solid. The dealer network in S.FL is horrible and CS is inept. I've had enough. Even though I still have a Sentra, I don't think I will be buying Nissan again.

Thanks to all who listened to my comments and provided advice on my questions over the years. All the best !!

My '18 Mo is my first Nissan and it's a nice vehicle that has been good for us. The seats in particular are wonderful for my terrible spine.

The factory nav is completely useless and I might note that since we got phones with traffic-aware nav, I see zero reason to use a crappy factory nav system like Nissan uses. We did a trip in my Grand Caravan recently and I did actually use the Garmin nav (OEM to Chrysler), 2016 maps and all, briefly to get some basic directions and really like that interface.

Nissan dealer support in the Detroit area is pretty lousy also but I will note that since the pandemic has hit, I have found customer service in many businesses to have declined terribly. Still, I have not been at all impressed by my Nissan dealer's personnel--lots of turnover and very low level of knowledge.

I agree with you on the seats, that's what kept me in the Mo. But I upgraded with the idea of upgrading to latest maps and a few small additional safety features that weren't on my 16. In retrospect, I should have held the 16 or bought a lower trim level.

Sorry to hear that. Here in Indiana I have had great service from the dealership. My 07 was kept up to date and working fine until I sold it 4/5/21. I am sticking with Nissan and will get my 2019 Platinum soon. I will keep you all posted. I am dubious about the nav system in any car though. J

Robotaz & Vortex, I agree. The QC is slipping badly. Big difference even from 16-20 but especially from 2010-20. Honestly, they are relying on heavy incentives to stay afloat. Due to their heavy incentives late last year on the Murano and the current uptick in used car values due to shortages, I was able to get out of my lease cleanly. If it weren’t for the massive rebates when I leased it probably wouldn’t have worked.

I also agree about the poor quality of certain parts, the cheap feel/sound of things, as well as the lack of foresight when selecting various trims/buttons/knobs/software, etc. In my 2021 SL, without going to explanations, these are a handul of things I feel fit into the above categories...

- turn signal lever - clunky, cheap, hollow sound, hard to engage, too much effort to twist the end knob (not smooth) too much resistence when using "3 blink" feature

- center console - cover only lifts back partially, causing right elbow to contact back of lid (potentially harming the hinge) unless you contort/twist your body and arm to go beneath it a certain way. Also, my shirt sleeve has gotten caught twice on the plastic latch because if the way it opens and is accessed from the driver's seat.

- media center - too many to list...no mute, no title scroll feature, vol/tune knobs look outdated and aren't easy to spin, the chrome function buttons are hard to push and look outdated, poor interactiveness with many things, lacking menus/options to do/configure certain things.

- inconsistency with types of buttons, knobs, tactile sensations. I think the steering wheel buttons are the only ones that feel good. The others are clunky, loud, feel cheap...

- shifter knob - fine when in park. When in D, makes using the cup holders more difficult. Style is boring and not in keeping with the overall style of the car. I would've created a "flaming meteor" type of look that had a more flattened handle that was offset with a button on the left side, activated with the thumb. This would keep it away from the cup holders and that small, fairly useless compartment that sits forward of the cup holder cluster. You know? The one where if you place cellphone into it, you can't use the USB ports of cigarette ports easily, and when driving the phone constantly falls towards the cup holders and smacks against your metal travel mug?

- lack of being able to disable/stop certain things from happening, such as the sideview mirrors turning down when shifter placed in R. Lack of being able to prevent the doors from always auto-locking whenever the car exceeds 15MPH. I wouldn't mind that last feature so much if the doors unlocked automatically either reducing below 15MPH or when coming to a stop (although still dumb). I'm sick of stopping to get out of my car, and I almost break off the handle because I keep thinking the door will open. At the very least, once the car is stopped/turned off, the latch handle being pulled should unlock the door and allow it to be opened. Lots of things... I plan to do a review of my initial impressions.

- poorly fitted exterior parts - when I detailed the exterior for the first time, I was disappointed to hear so much "plastic flexing" clicks/pops from so many things. The one big aspect I disliked when first considering the 2021 MO was, way too much plastic that felt cheap and easy to break.

While I hate comparing the two model years, I feel my 2003 1st Gen MO had better quality parts and was better thought out and better laid out, and there was greater design consistency throughout. This 2021 MO seems more like whatever parts they had leftover or accidentally found in a warehouse, they fit them into this vehicle. I found out my AUX port doesn't work consistently at all...constantly cutting out more than working. It's not the device or the input jack causing it. Sharp edges on certain interior parts that could slice open your finger... Overall, I like the 2021, but there seem to be more things I dislike about it than on the '03. Things that you really don't notice during a test drive, but do once you start using the car daily without trying to pay attention to how things work or how they look. What turned me off to the Platinum version was the mocha interior and the ugly wood grain accents. I couldn't find a Plat that had graphite or black interior. Not sure if the Midnight Edition is available in Platinum. I also didn't like the pattern design of the leather upholstery. Triangles or diamonds or something. I also disliked the two-tone coloring of the stitching throughout. In fact, I dislike the stitching accents altogether.

Place to mirror switch in the middle to prevent the mirrors from turning down:

You can change the door locking behavior also:

My '19 is an SL, and my mirrors don't angle down with the mirror switch in the middle... Double check that's it's actually in the center, the position can be subtle...

Yes, you can't disable auto-locking in the settings, but you can solve the other issue you mentioned by selecting the doors to unlock when the shifter is placed in park...

I fooled around with the mirrors a few days ago, and I jiggled the button, etc. My mirrors always angle down, so something must not be working.

I don't see in the manual or in any vehicle settings I've entered where there's an option to disable auto-locking that pertains to the shifter being in P. About the only thing I haven't tried is, placing the car in a different gear (say, neutral) and seeing if bringing up the vehicle's setting menu changes to include such an option. But, PaulDay's post of pressing and holding the lock button on the door for five seconds might do something, so I'll give that a try. In remembering the forum search I'd done before, I recall there was a work-around to the locks locking at 15MPH, but I thought it was some constant ritual I had to do everytime I drove MO, so I decided it wasn't worth pursuing. I figured I'd just get used to living with it or by pressing the unlock button whenever I'm about to exit the vehicle.

EDIT: When I first entered the vehicle settings to adjust the locking (and I'd gone in there about five different times) the fourth entry that reads "auto lock" does not have an "off/on" option to the right of the wording the way the first three entries have, so I assumed that entry must be reserved for the Platium model. I see that selecting it brings up a second menu with the options for the shifter position, etc. Previously, I had even tried using the arrow buttons and other buttons to bring up a second menu from the first menu.... My thinking for how to do things in this car is way off. But, really...why even have a second menu under the locks menu? Why not just include the other two options on the first menu and save a step? You could have another title (AUTO LOCKS) beneath the last entry on the first menu, and then you'd scroll down to reveal the changeable options beneath it.
