Need an ID on what these hoses are and where to get a replacement.

i have a 2010, i got the "service engine soon" light and the code comes back as P0021. after searching around for info, i check my oil level, it's good. oil looks clean. got it changed out two months ago. now i have to check to see where the VVT solenoid for Bank 2 is and clean it.

so i take my engine cover off any i find a nest with leaves and some cotton-like material, and i also spot that these hoses have been chewed right through.

i don't think any wires were damaged, but what are these hoses for and where can i get a replacement? also where is the VVT solenoid for bank 2 located? thank you.

VIAS. Bring a sample to an auto parts store and ask them for a couple of feet of equivalent vacuum tubing.

Update. i was able to get new hoses from Auto Zone. the inner diameter of the hose is 4 mm and just cut it to length, about 5 inches, and fit it on the connector. i went ahead and cleared the P0021 code and will drive around normally the next couple of days to see if the SES light comes back on.

as far as removing the VVT solenoid for bank 2, looks like there is no easy way. the Water inlet and thermostat assembly is in the way so you can't pull the solenoid straight out. you would have to drain the coolant and remove the thermostat assembly. another way is to remove the valve timing control cover, but first you have to drain the oil.

i searched on youtube and a lot of the VQ35DE engines were from infiniti's and altima's. and they look different from my 2010 Murano, which makes it more difficult since i am a visual learner. i need to see how this is done on my particular engine. i guess i'll keep searching.

Thermostat needs to be removed to get the VVT solenoid out. Check the easiest things first.

Update, the code came back. i saw a video on youtube and they removed the timing cover to remove the bank 2 vvt solenoid instead of removing the thermostat. i might do it that way. i'll test the resistance before i do it.

also looking up replacement parts for the vvt solenoid and timing cover gasket. they are described as Left and Right, not bank 1 or bank 2. which side is bank 2? i'm guessing it's the Right side of the engine, towards the front of the vehicle. can i get a confirmation on this, before i buy the wrong part? thank you.

Left/right is from the vantage point of the front of the engine (where the pulleys are) facing out so left would be bank 2.

Interesting. It does look like the VVT solenoids bolt to those covers instead of the main timing cover so that may indeed end up being easier than taking out the thermostat. If you do it that way let us know how it works out. At least you wouldn't have to drain the coolant.

You really should inspect the harness before replacing the solenoid if the resistance test checks out since you found a mouse nest in the engine compartment. In the picture you posted earlier, the wire sheath to the VIAS solenoid has a hole in it that probably was made by the mice and there likely is additional damage that may not be clearly visible without a close inspection.

i tried to check the resistance on the solenoid, but after i was able to unclip the harness connector from the solenoid, i could not remove the connector all the way since the thermostat was blocking the way. looks like i have to take off the timing cover after all.

EDIT: looks like someone was able to take that connector off of a 2009 Maxima. i'll see if i can take it off at another time.

I've removed that connector prior to replacing the thermostat in my car so it will clear the thermostat housing although very little clearance.
