I apologize if this is the wrong forum for this question. I own a 2006 Murano and just got an EZ-Pass thingy that I have to put in my window. According to the instructions, I have to mount it below any tint on the window next to the rear view mirror. Well the tint on the Murano around the mirror goes pretty low and this EZ-Pass thing sticks out like a sore thumb if I go below it. Anyone have EZ-Pass who put it above the tint line and does it work ok? Theoretically, I'd assume it should work fine since it's probably using RF to register the tolls...but I just want to be sure since the instructions specify it to be below the tint.

Just below the diversity antenna
I bought a holder from a local car wash with two suction cups and stuck mine just below the diversity antenna, directly behind the right side of the mirror. Of all the warnings I've ever heard about tint, the only rental car I've driven that blocked the EZ Pass was the Pontiac Aztec. You could actually see a metallic layer in the glass, unlike any other car I've driven.
That being said, sure I would try putting it behind the tint, but having seen what happened in the Asstec, I would not put it behind the diversity antenna on the Mo. So long as the EZ Pass is registered to your car, they'll snap a photo and bill your account based on your license plate if they can't read the tag anyway, so just put it there and try it out!

Hmmm...the picture of your windshield looks different then my windshield looks. If I put the device where yours is, it'll still be behind a tint type thing that goes around the mirror...it's not regular tint..it's black with alot of round holes in it...and it's textured so it's not "in" the window but stuck to the inside...hard to explain. I guess my only option is to just bite the bullet and go to A.C. tonight and test it on the Expressway so I don't get all nervous during rush hour on Monday that it won't work. Damn...guess I'll have to spend the night gambling...poor me.
Those black dots/bumps are the diversity antenna I was referring to. You just can't see it too well in the picture I posted. I don't see a problem in hiding the EZ Pass in the tint that goes all the way across the top of the windshield, but I wouldn't mount it behind those black bumpy dots, due to the metal.

According to Wikipedia, it implies using multiple antennas and a system for choosing the best reception. That would make sense for a large, flat, (non-contiguous?) antenna surface. Certainly doesn't seem impossible to me.Well, shoot, I don't know.
I know what a diversity antenna is, I just thought the black dots were..............black dots. Useful to diffuse the sun when you look up at the mirror but not totally block vision in that area.

You guys got my curiousity up so I found an answer. Did not know if it was fair to just copy and paste so I included the link.
A recap though for those who don't want to view the full answer: It is black enamel used for adhesive when the windshield is installed.
Black dots make it look cleaner so they don't have to make a perfectly straight line and they do ask as a chessy sun screen.

We just use the license plate mounting (its a different device available from EZ pass) for the EZ pass...it is easier anyway in my opinion...I was first turned on to it when I had my first G35, there was something in the windshield that made the window mounted one hit or miss.

Although the EZ Pass directions say not to do anything to it... I still did. I spray painted mine black and also the velcro strips black and then put in on the window tint of the front window.... you can't even see it now. It's awsome, it doesn't take away from the look at all.

Well, I put it behind the black dots yesterday and went through the A.C. tolls and it worked fine. The black dots block it from being seen from the outside and I can't see it from the driver's seat because of the mirror so I'm happy...even though I lost all my money at the casino. Thanks for all the input.

I have a fastlane pass... same technology on my 03.... I placed it up almost all the way to the header and it works fine. I use the velcro it came with. You are fine go with it.
On that note my Mobil speedpass is mounted on the rear window and that works fine there too.

The EZ pass uses a clear velcro-like substance called 3M Trulock (sp). I love this stuff, yet I can't seem to find it anywhere. I did find a 10,000 foot roll on Ebay once, but that's overkill.
