Climate seat not working

My driver side seat isn't working- the orange LED isn't turning on when adjusting the dial to either cool or heat. Passenger works fine. Any idea what to check next? Car is out of warranty.

This is the only easy fix I know of:

15 Amp fuse in the engine room fuse box, approximately in the position shown by the shaky red circle. There is a legend on the underside of the fuse box cover. Note there are separate fuses for the LH and RH seats.

There are some spare fuses in the interior front panel fuse box (above the hood release)...I don't know if there are any 15 Amps, though.

Good Luck!

Just got into this forum. My driver's side seat heater crapped out, fuses were not blown . Turns our wiring harness/ control module had some melted wires. Total repair at original dealer was $1004, covered by extended warranty completely. Now the blower on the passenger side hums when turned on until cabin temperature warms up.

I have a 2016 Murano Platinum with the same problem. Driver side seat would not heat or cool. I took it to a Nissan Dealer to get an estimate for the repair. It cost $195 to find out the control unit and wire harness had melted. Repair cost was $1233. Ridiculous! I like the climate control seats, but not at that price. Sounds like this is a class problem. My opinion of the Murano has dropped. Nissan should have a recall.

I agree!!! I have the exact same problem. Took the car to the dealer today and after paying $145 to have it checked, they quoted me $1,039!!! Totally ridiculous! Worst of all having a heated/cooling seat was the main reason why I bought the 2017 Nissan Platinum. I refused to pay that amount!! I´m fuming!

It's really a simple parts replace. The seat needs to be unbolted and leaned back to access the seat heating/cooling assembly. If the plug is also an issue, get one used one from a auto recycler and splice it on.

I haven't priced the heater myself, but it's a common part at a auto recycler and should be less then $300 from a Nissan online parts dealer. Just shop around for the best price. Some online dealers are lower then others on their parts pricing.

Good luck.

Have a good day.

PS I hate a cold butt.

My driver seat barely heats/cool anymore. I can hear the fan going but it takes like 45 minutes to feel anything really. I already had the module replaced a few years ago. I honestly dont think paying the dealer a grand to fix something that will fail in 2 years again is worth it. As mentioned above by PaulDay, save yourselves the money and do it yourself. It's most likely going to fail again, at least you wont be out another grand...

Its little things like this that have pushed my away from Nissan. First and for sure last.

my 2018 platinum had the driver seat heat cold switch no light no power issue, I use vehicle start power button for electrical system to work vehicle off not running, I raised the power seat tallest height tilt back maybe half way,it increase access underneath enough for access under use a light half way back to power unit plug under the seat area I pushed plug in and moved the wires around a little from what they were ,Lowered seat Down ,started vehicle now heat switch light on drove with full heat in seat now on.

I'd be curious to know if the owners with this problem are using that function where the seat slides back automatically before getting in and out, to give the person plenty of room. I disabled that feature, since I don't see the point of putting so much unnecessary wear and tear on those components.

I raised the seat and moved back as far to get access, with vehicle off I readjusted wiring and pushed on the plug that goes into unit under seat ,may have got lucky cause it worked after.and has still worked. I also turned off the memory seat and seat back movement from continung to move seat when vehicle power is off to stop all the wiring from moving with it.

I had the same issue in my 2015 Murano Platinum. Climate control knob’s light was not turning on and neither were heating or cooling in the seat. Checked fuse but they were okay. Then I lifted my seat up and down to the end viola !! It’s back on. I assume connectors are to blame here. I guess at some point connectors will fail and will have to be replaced if this happens often.

If you're using the auto-exit function of the seat when you get out of the car, that is most likely the cause of the issue. This function causes a lot of excessive seat movement, which really requires a more secure system for the wiring to prevent rubbing.

Wiring for the seat heater, controls and air bag system is not secured properly for this excessive movement and can cause rubbing when the seat is moving all the way back, which can cause the wire covering to wear off and the resulting exposed bare wire touching the frame will short out the systems. Nissan put Zero thought into the different requirements for the wiring containment when this function is used.

Move the seat all the way forward and full height. From the rear you'll have good access to look at the wiring. Use wire ties wherever you see the wiring rubbing against the frame after checking for any worn areas. If needed, 4 bolts hold the seat down, accessible by moving the seat back and forth. Since power is needed, get the bolts out before disconnecting the battery to actually remove the seat.

Be sure to disconnect the battery first (Wait 10 minutes for voltage to drain.) before disconnecting any of the wires under the seat. The airbag system will freak out if any part of it is disconnected while the car still has power.

Good luck.

Have a good day.

Not really a design flaw. They didn't take into account the amount of movement that the wiring/plug would be subjected to when using the auto exit slide back feature. Wiring gets worn and shorts out. It's easily solved with a few wire ties to prevent the wire movement in the first place.

Have a good day.

Nissan should pay for it then, don’t you think?
My car was in for this repair today; both modules are needing replaced. $2100 job covered under extended warranty. YIKES. But I’m also glad it’s covered at least this time. My 2020 Murano just rolled over 40,000kms

Did you do the wiring check Paul Day suggested? That would be a permanent fix.

I fixed my heated seat on the 2017 platinum myself for a total of 399.65$ and a Friday evening! I had to buy a bit for the seat bolts, soldering iron & shrink wrap. I searched all Nissan dealers in my tri-state area and found one dealer that had the parts on sale. 85$ harness and 277$ heater module. The module needs to be new, don’t go used. You’ll not know if it has been replaced or not. Do not swap passenger unit to the driver side, you will have air bag issues and need to have a scan tool, this is mentioned in the tech bulletin. And, it’s not a fuse so stop looking. There is also a seat removal service guide easily found on the internet. Hardest task for me was disconnecting the connectors underneath the seat blindly. Removal of the seat into house was surprisingly easy. Disassembly of seat parts was easy. Soldering in the new harness was not to difficult but tedious. I followed all steps except for drilling the hole for a new clip. I choose to solder the wires and shrink wrap them rather than using solder sleeves & a heat gun, just my preference and saved a little $. I won’t ever use these tools again… hopefully. Honestly, not to hard, take you time, take pictures step by step to help yourself in the end when you plug everything back in. Also, under the seat, all wire harnesses are clipped up nice and tight, I see some of you are turning off the auto eject seat function in fear of causing this issue. It will not! unless you have pulled the harness down and left them hanging. Absolutely no wire harnesses get pulled or twisted by the seat moving. My install picture is attached.

I FIXED IT! First, I changed the fuse which is simple but it's recessed so far back, that it was a real pain to swap out but that didn't work. Next, I followed DK's suggestion, turned on accessory mode, lifted the seat up as far as it could go and tilted slightly back and got my 59 year body across the back floor with a flashlight where I found my favorite sunglasses and a missing credit card but then I touched all the connectors and slightly pushed them all in. I was stunned when I started the car and the heated seat light was orange and the seat heated up. Super happy :)
