Cold start engine noise

Three weeks ago, check engine light came on with P0305 which most of us know means a misfiring at cylinder 5. I had a misfiring code before but at cylinder 3 a month ago but erased the code as I thought it was due to bad gas. Since last week although it's been awfully cold here (-18 celsius) engine makes this tapping noise upon cold start and it usually lasts longer than the first couple of seconds on the video. Oil level is ok and oil filter is OEM but to my ears, it's almost as if it was a dry start. Any ideas? Anyone had that before?

- The noise can be heard from the 9th second till the 11th on the video and usually goes on for about 20 seconds or so but on that particular day, it wasn't as pronounced as usual. Must've been because temperature was around (-3 celsius) that day.

Out of curiosity, what oil and filter are you using?

A little new to this so my response may not appear where I intended to ha ha

I found this site and have used the input to change my spark plugs, as I simply couldn't get myself to pay $500 for what should be such a simple task.

So thanks to those who posted the instructions.

I managed to replace the rear plugs without removing the electrical wires and the 2 water hoses, such that there was no learning procedure to be performed after I was done. Not sure if I should do it anyhow, but the car runs great.

Seemingly responding more crisply to the pedal than before, and a better quieter sound, or maybe it's just because it feels good to have done it, and saved $400, that makes me feel this way ha ha

BTW how old is your car and what mileage?

Anyhow --- I'm surprised to learn that the MO has solid lifters, but then again I must confess to not having any idea about the MO other than it being my wife's car. I have had the MO doing this once, and much louder that what I heard in the video. It scared the besuus out of me, but it stopped after 5 - 10 seconds, and I never have experienced it again. I stood in front of the car when my daughter started it.

My thoughts were that my synthetic oil might have been too thin (5-30W as I recall) and that the hydr. lifters had drained and needed to be filled before stopping the clattering noise.

I have no clue what it might be as I don't have any insight to what the engine look like. Anybody having x-ray views og the engine? Are there e.g. hydraulic valve adjustments etc?

I have worked on cars in the past and know my way around, but the latest engines with all their adjustments I haven't messed with, I return the leased cars and get another haha

But I have a lot of experience with hydraulics as I own/have owned Citroens since mid '80s.

I shall be interested in what you find as a cause to your clatter

I suspect it to be valve clatter, and would like to suggest that you use 100% synthetic oil. Your temperatures will stiffen the oil and prevent the hydraulic lifters from working until the oil and engine has warmed up a bit.

That is at least my suspision
Good point. Unfortunately the MO has solid lifters.

Welcome to the forum Pridbor and I see that your first post went to my cry for help and I'm honored! I've been using synthetic oil and even that doesn't help.

Njjoe, I'm using full synthetic and use Nissan oil filter. I've never had this issue before during previous winter periods.

MS-

The reason I asked about the oil & filter is because there have been issues with noisy start-up on MOs with certain brands of filters that do not have a decent anti-drainback valve. Out of curiosity, did the latest problem start soon after your last oil change? I know it's a WAG, but that's all I've got.
