My issue with Nissan remains, false advertising, followed by an abject failure to be honest and up front to its customers and providing them with accurate and timely information. The dealers for the most part are also in the dark about this. So what pray would be your answer to the Nissan honesty issue now that you have faulted the victimized owners ?
IMO this isn't likely to be an issue with "Nissan honesty" as much as it is a symptom of one hand at Nissan not knowing what the other is doing and screwing up their marketing and product literature as a result. But that's just opinion, perhaps not accurate. I tend to think more in terms of practical options than the lawsuits which have been mentioned. Regardless, the owners in this thread have a legitimate problem.

As requested, my answer is as follows: if this issue affected my car, then if I didn't really depend on being able to use crossbars as a critical element motivating my purchase, I'd find a work-around until I could get better information. If this issue were really a deal-breaker for me I'd get back to the dealership immediately and make an effort to exchange the Murano for a Pathfinder or other suitable vehicle that could serve the desired purpose. I'd do it immediately because when you drive out of the dealership your vehicle becomes a used car...so waiting would be a bad idea and sooner would be better.

There was a good point made earlier around a question about whether the roof has the structural strength required to support a load on crossbars. I suspect it will be difficult to get Nissan to provide specific data; they may just stick to "not recommended." That won't help a lot.

There probably will be some safe load on crossbars once they can be fitted, but I don't know what it will be...it might be rather minimal. That probably depends on whether the "not recommended" is the result of a clearance issue which you could compensate for, or a structural issue which you could not.

Sorry guys, it's not a good situation and I know it must be frustrating. I'll leave the rest of the discussion to you...so let's keep it focused on solutions.

I been looking for a couple of things for my MO; one is step rails,or boards or tubes. what ever you want to call them. and the Roof racks. BUT i was told by 3 different places that with the new Body style that nothing is avialable right now. I guess i will just have to sit back and wait..

Just looking at this thread to report that the corporate Nissan Rep has been trying to contact me regarding the crossbars. It's like the third person to reach out to me. I don't think they realize that the dealership took back the car. But maybe it's a sign of Nissan's awareness of just how problematic this issue is.

Pilgrim, I do think that many people (including me) purchased this vehicle with the need for the crossbars. For me, I specifically requested the crossbars throughout my discussion at the dealership. I needed the crossbars immediately for a long road trip requiring my Thule Carrier on top. The salesman kept saying that crossbars were in the literature, he didn't have any in stock & he was "sure" we could get them within a few days of purchase.

In NJ, we have a very strong Consumer Fraud Act that protects consumers from deliberate acts and omissions by seller. We can get treble damages & attorney fees. It's a statute with teeth.

I do feel that many people who bought the Murano with the need for the crossbars were given incorrect/inacurate information. By now, dealers KNOW or SHOULD KNOW about the crossbar issue. I think it is a fraudulent misrepresentation by omission for dealers not to explain that problem to customers since Nissan corporate advertised crossbar availability.

Corrals continued....

I had written about this a while ago and for some reason nobody really "got" the issue....until recently. (Edited...Mod.) Anyway, I went to my dealer to return the car and trade it for the non-tech Murano. I would have lost a lot of money. As another post mentioned, most of us bought the car to carry things on the crossrails. I have a camping trip coming up next week and I have no way to transport 2 kayaks. NOT putting a hitch on and buying a trailer as SuperModerator suggested. NOT going to another place like Thule because if something goes wrong there goes the warranty. This whole situation has been disingenuous on Nissan's behalf and my dealer is not going to give me a swap without a cost to me. So, is anyone considering a class action lawsuit and if so, how does one proceed with such lawsuit? Is there a lawyer on this post?

I talked to my dealer today. He called Nissan and was told that there IS a part number available now and the silver cross rails will be available in early or mid August and will list for $315. We'll see...

Due to the limitations on this forum I can’t seem to be able to post the flyer I have re 2015 Nissan Murano Crossbars. The gospel according to Nissan it is the excessive noise, not the pop-up moon roof or a weight problem. The bars will be available in Oct. See Accessory Bulletin AC15-22.

Paint issues with 2015 MO Crossbars/Roof Rails

I purchased my 2015 MO July 20th. I found 2 issues within the first week I had it. The 2nd day I noticed the A/C control buttons werent properly modeled. They look chipped. Finally after 2 months on backorder Im getting that switched out today 09/23.
As for the roof rail and crossbars. The crossbars are chipping the paint off at the connection points of the roof rails at all 4 points. I have not placed anything on my roof to create any stress/wear on the system. Two weeks ago my first replacement kit came in. The dealership had my MO for 5 days due to the incorrect kit being shipped and them having to reorder the cargo kit. Within a week the chipping has started again at one connection point and some of the finish on one roof rail isnt smooth 09/23. So aggravating to purchase a new vehicle and have to deal with stupid issues like this . So back to the dealership today and Im calling Customer Care to launch a complaint.

Do you have the tech package? How is the wind noise? I'm debating getting a set.

Crossbar Installation Instructions

Has anyone looked at the installation instructions? http://www.nissan-techinfo.com/asistgc_1/diskdocs/1/U/T/1UT9.PDF The instructions require removal of the roof rails, drilling and cutting, and replacement of all the clips holding the roof rails on. It's not clear if this is only to inspect rivets or if there is some other reason. Does anyone have any insight? I was expecting to remove the covers and attach the crossbars. This is obviously much more involved.

LOL, well we asked for them and we got them by george. Notice it recommends dealer installation. Let's see, you need tin snips and a grinding devise to install them. Yep, something I think I would want to stay away from. To much risk of damaging something or scraping paint causing rust in the future. Wonder how much a dealer wants to charge to have them installed.
