67K miles is WAY too early to even think about CVT fluid change, unless you are subjecting your Murano to severe driving conditions (as defined in the FSM). I know we have driven our 04 SE under totally normal conditions since buying it new 10/04, and at 107K miles are still perfectly fine with the OEM fluid. If in doubt, just get a CVT fluid deterioration date analysis done at your local dealer.

At that low mileage, if you are truly not subjecting your Mo to severe driving conditions AND your dealer is honest, the service manager there will laugh when you ask him if you even need to have the deterioration date analysis done.

 

People still tend to think that transmission fluid needs changed every 30,000 miles. It's just not the case anymore.

 

Very true. I know a couple of people who still change their oil every 3K miles as well. Of course, this might not be totally bad (except on your wallet and our environment). Especially if one is still using dino oil - which, personally, I think is crazy in 2013 with todays engines and the availability of great synthetic oils.

Even with full synthetic, however, I'm still halving the oil change interval provided by the electronic calculation on my bimmer. Somehow, going 19K miles on the oil - no matter how good it is - in an engine with two turbos seems insane to me.

 

I change oil twice a year, whether I need to or not!

 

I follow mileage and also the hours of engine running... I use synthetic and not let the hours int he trip meter go above 250 hrs or in that range.. it works out to 7K miles for me.
Also recently walmart had a sale of Mobile1 22.95 for 5Quarts Jugs of synthetic Mobile1 any weight.. I bought a lot of Jugs of 0W40 for my 2010 BMW 535xi and 5W30 for my Murano..

 

Does anyone know what the CVT analysis means?

My MO has 213,000km on it and I got the analysis done at an import shop while getting some other things checked - they told me it read 2957, but I don't know what that means and they weren't totally sure either.

 

Nissan does not want us to know when to change the oil. According to Nissan tech line they informed me that when the consult toll indicates 250000(no units ) then they recommend changing oil. Nissan Tech services will not tell you the units when asked.

However , when my Mo went to the dealer to change out my alternator belt, the tech checked out the oil in the tranfer case and informed me that there was transmission oil in the case. This indicated that the transmission was leaking into it. At only 186000 Km and still under warranty they replaced all seals and flushed out the tranny. The oil color was a burnt brown and there toll indicated only 45000.. The morale is change oil sooner rather than later.

With all due respect, you are wrong on both counts.

Nissan uses an algorithm to calculate the "wear" placed on the CVT and the fluid. I assume it considers the hours, miles, duty cycles, loads, etc. to come up with the "CVTF Deterioration Date". This is not unlike the algorithm many manufacturers use to determine remaining motor oil life.

The CVTF number is unit-less because... wait for it... it has no units. The number is meant for the mechanics. If it was meant for the end-user then all they had to do was divide the number by 210,000, subtract it from 1, multiply it by 100 and represent it as a percentage of remaining life.

I hope this sheds some light on the issue.

I just passed 100k and thinking about a cvt fluid change. Should I do it? I cant find a definite answer.

 

$25 for a CVT fluid analysis on my '04. Very in depth. Lab recommended changing my 120,000 mile fluid. Currently have 1000 miles on Valvoline CVT fluid. Everything good.
