Hey all,
It's been awhile since I had anything to add to the site or any issues to run by anybody....but that seems to be changing. I live on the ND/MN border and run my 2004 AWD in some harsh conditions, which include compacted snow/ice/blizzards/etc. and I'm starting to get concerned about a recurring issue. While driving on the less than ideal roads (without cruise control to avoid accidents that are mechanically caused....only go with moron-at-the-wheel for myself) the cvt is starting to slip or disengage in starts and fits. I originally thought to myself that this was the vehicle's way of telling me that it had hit a patch of ice and countered potentially problematic wheel spin, but it is happening on 'dry' patches of pavement as well. I find this to be highly problematic as it causes a very harsh "re-engagement" of the cvt at speeds of 70-80mph. The jolt on dry pavement is bad enough, and the jolt on icy roads is downright dangerous (even at slower speeds, hitting ditch when it's 0 degrees out at night with wife and 2 year old at any speed is not what I bought AWD Mo for). I have not talked to Nissan dealer yet, and am not sure they'd fess up if there is a know issue so I'm putting it to the mob for comment first. It only seems to happen in colder temps....but only after I've been driving for 1 hour or more, so it's a very "warm" cvt/motor when it's happening.
On the plus side, I drive circles around most other SUV's here in the Northland...I don't know why people here complain about the OEM Goodyears on this vehicle as I'm driving on frozen rain/in blizzards/through downpours/ you name it in my 4 season "paradise" and they along with the AWD have been magnificent.
Please let me know what you guys know before I become to paranoid and turn this MO into a winter "garage queen" out of fear for my family's safety.
Thanks,
Mike
