Front camera not responding

Hi all,
So finally got a 2017 Murano platinum, it’s super nice, again kinda higher kms but been serviced to death and through the purchase negotiated a CVT fluid AND two filter change, however this week the dashboard flashed a message stating “front camera not responding” and the virtual front lane in the display went orange. It’s seems intermittent as it went off and all is good again.
FYI- there was No Handbook with the car so will need to find/get one (before someone says read the handbook lol)
1/ should I be concerned
2/ Any suggestions what/where to check and diagnose, Im guessing likely sensor issue but you guys will know better.
TIA 👍🙏🏻

Electrical issues are often very time-consuming and costly to figure out and resolve. My advice is to bring the car back to the business that sold it to you and have them diagnose and repair the problem before too much time elapses.

BTW, perhaps the most basic thing you can try is to start the car and have someone inside (or a phone inside recording the display) and then tap the grille logo to see if doing that makes the embedded camera glitch. If you can reach it, maybe gently manipulate the wires that go to the front camera to see if the does anything.

If the video goes in and out it might be a loose connector, a bad wire or the camera is starting to die.

The camera that affects what you mentioned is located behind the rear view mirror (not to be confused with the around view parking camera under the grille emblem).

It can be affected by a noisy electronic device near it (if I recall correctly).

You can download an owner's manual from here: Nissan Publications

Since the OP said "virtual front lane," I got the impression it was related to the all-around view front camera in the grille emblem. Isn't the windshield-mounted camera used for the forward emergency braking (FEB) feature? If so, I think other warning lights would be on to indicate FEB is disabled. Does the windshield camera provide a video feed to the infotainment system, or is it there to monitor distance from objects and read speeds limit signs, etc? It's a complex system whose components I'm not entirely sure provide what information for what purpose, despite having read some stuff and seen diagrams over the years.

FEB uses the radar to determine distance.

The windshield mounted camera is used for things like pedestrian detection, speed limit signs, lane departure warning, etc. Vision related things.

Distance related things are measured by the center grille mounted radar sensor.

Subaru has a technology called EyeSight. It uses two windshield mounted cameras to determine distance (instead of radar sensor). The two cameras provide depth perception, just like our eyes.

I assumed the OP meant "virtual front lane" as lane departure related because OP mentioned the display went orange... I assumed it was the driver's display lane departure icon turning from green to orange, not the head unit virtual Around View display. I probably assumed incorrectly. Virtual is probably the key word I overlooked...

The OP mentioned “front camera not responding”, so you may be correct. My train of thought interpreted this to be the windshield mounted camera.

Hi all, thanks for the follow up but to clarify, it’s the digital view between the two circular gauges in the dash board. While driving and the settings at driver aids, the view (what I called virtual lane) in front of the car goes from grey to Orange colour, then an error message pops up and the little two cars crashing icon flashes orange as well so I would guess it’s the camera in the front grill, not the birds eye view camera.

I've gotten the "crashing cars" dummy light when the grille camera is obstructed by snow, ice, a leaf, a clinging insect, fog/vapor, etc. In a couple of cases I pulled over and wiped off the camera lens and that solved the problem immediately. If you've already cleaned it and are still having random issues, it's back to loose wire, connector or failing camera as the main things to look at. I don't recall if the sensors around the bumper ever created a problem. I do recall having to clean the front and rear sensors twice because of some issue, but I think it was related to parking or leaving the garage and the alert sounded when nothing was in the path of the car or close enough to trigger anything. Maybe gently wipe off those bumper sensors in case they're gunked up.

Thanks for this info, I suspect it’s not just requiring cleaning though, it seem to be intermittent and comes on and off randomly as I drive. I would guess if it was any kind of debris, bugs, dirt etc I would think it would stay offline until cleaned.
A question though, would a 2017 Platinum have all these features, as mentioned I never got a handbook when I got the car. Thanks for all your help

The manual indicates many of the same features, though it makes no mention of lane departure or sonar. But your picture of the "Driver Aid" view might indicate your car is equipped with it. But FEB and ICC and whatnot are shown and should come equipped on SL and higher trims. There's not a manual for each trim, only the "if so equipped" wording. I would say the S and SV would NOT be so equipped with many features, whereas Platinum should have everything.
