Question: I have a 2025 Murano Platinum and sometimes get ‘Key System Error’ and vehicle will not start! Any thoughts what the cause is? Has anyone else experienced this?

I don't know what the 2025 Murano dash looks like but do you have an intelligent key fob and a push to start button? If you do, push the start button with the key fob itself and see if the message goes away and the car starts. This is like the key slot in the 2nd gens where you'd put the key fob in a slot in the dash to start the car if your fob battery was dead. It allows the car to read the fob with a loop antenna rather than through RF comms.

If the car starts using that method, it means your car can't communicate with the fob for some reason like dead fob battery or some other problem. You shouldn't have a dead fob battery at this point with a brand new car so maybe pointing to a hardware problem with the fob or the car's transmitter or flaky immobilizer software.

Maybe try swapping to a backup fob for a bit and see if you still have the same occasional problem or if it goes away. Would point at the fob itself. If it happens with all your fobs, would point at the car.

First one of these problems we've heard of on the 2025. Make sure you let us know what you end up finding.

Thank you for your timely response. I will use the key fob next time the issue occurs as you suggested and reply to let you know. The issue of not starting has happened with both fobs. Initially I was getting the vehicle to start by placing the fob against start button but now after repeated pushes on the start button it will start with fob still in pocket. I don't get stranded, but my wife wont drive it.

I have found with the Intellikey system that if the fob is not used and just kept in the pocket that the system will report a key error after about a month or so of daily use.

I discovered that when the error appears, using the fob to unlock and lock the doors several times in a row when entering and exiting the car resolves the issue.

Good luck.

Have a good day.

I am having the same problem. Picked up new 2025 Murano Platinum on April 14th and on April 17th, got the same "Key Error". Car would not start. Called dealership service department and was told to put both feet on brake petal and try starting. It finally started. Took back to dealership where purchased and they couldn't give me any answer as to why this happened . Just that it had been noted with Nissan and that maybe a recall will be coming. Happened again on May 24th. Finally got the car started. Not to happy with this car.

I am still having the same issue and but been told Nissan is aware of the issue and they are working on finding a solution. I have tried a number of suggestions but none have been permanent solutions. Hopefully they find a solution quickly, as waiting for it to start is annoying, and my wife refuses to drive the vehicle.

This locking and unlocking several times did work for starting my 2025 Platinum Murano.
Just confirming everything worked normally after you locked and unlocked several times? Please check back in if/when it stops working again. It'll be useful for folks to know how often the problem pops up. Like one day, one week, one month or xxx miles.
