Hi Russel. I don't know much about cars, but I have a 2007 Nissan Murano and when I put my car into gear it would do the same thing. I also had issues with it stalling and then jerking forward at times. When I drove my car it seemed like I couldn't go into 4th gear. It would make a high pitched sound when going above 45mph. (I told you all my issues so you could compare with your own) With all that being said I researched online and found that there is an extended warranty on certain Muranos with the CVT transmission. It's 10 yrs 120,000 miles. I just took my car in today and they are replacing my transmission. You might want to check with your local Nissan dealer. Just give them the VIN for your vehicle and they can check if your vehicle is under the warranty. I hope this helps.

There are no gears in the CVT, only drive pulleys and a belt. If you understand how it is designed, you will know what to expect.

At 60 MPH, what does your tach read?

The story of your experience may help, but if you are ignorant about cars, don't be testy with someone who does know something. You are correct, the 120,000 mile transmission warranty does apply at least to first generation Muranos...and is discussed extensively in this forum.

My question about RPM goes directly to diagnosing the problem. Hey Russell811, what's the answer about RPM at speed?

FYI, P1700 is a transmission error code (Google it for more info, although what I found is somewhat contradictory.) You may indeed have a transmission problem or transmission control unit problem.
