The Murano is only three weeks young and just last night the passenger airbag off light was light with my wife sitting in the passenger seat. I was on my way to the dealer for some paperwork so the techs looked at it and found nothing wrong. They reset the computer, so to speak, and that fixed the problem. They said if it happens again that they would have to call Nissan and ask what needs to be done.

We had been driving for about 30 minutes and neither of us noticed it on. Being a new vehicle we kept looking at things and playing around with the buttons and doubt we had missed it since it is right there in front of us. Perhaps we didnt see it lit the whole time. But over the past 15 minues of the drive the light was on and remained on while driving. The techs tested it and I believe they also noticed that it wasnt working properly thus reseting the computer codes. We shall see how it goes and hope no issues.

That light is real finicky and we've been having a bunch of issues with it on Altimas, Sentras and Pathfinders. If your wife is of small build and she's not sitting straight up, even just leaning over it can make the pressure sensors misread her weight and think there's a small child in front. The occupant detection system will automatically keep recalculating the passengers weight each time you come to a full stop (so I'm told).

My issue with my 2015 SL isn't the passenger light but the lack of a chime. My wife sometimes forgets to put on her seat belt. We will be driving for a few minutes and she or I will notice she forgot. All other cars we have owned start beeping if she forgot. I am tall so the steering wheel blocks the warning light so I don't see it. Has anyone else noticed this!

I for one am happy there is no annoying chime. I suppose the best option would be to have an on off choice for the chime.

I am having the same problem. I was on my way home. The light come on and stayed on for about 30 min driving on the interstate, It went off. it is happening more often. Called the dealer and they said to bring it in WHEN THE LITE IS ON... the only problem it knows when it is close to the dealer cause it goes off, So I don't know what they are going to do about it, The code isnt locked in the computer, it has to be on to get a code, It isnt a weight problem, or a postiton problem. hopefully it will stay on long enough to get a reading on it.

That lite don't want to co operate trying to get a code off it. So the dealer reset the module or whatever its called and seem to work for a while. It come on again and called the dealer and told them. As it stands right now they have a call into Tech Support and hoping they have enough info on it to offer a fix for it.. I don't agree with the idea of a weight problem, sitting upright problem,. or a sequence starting as some suggest. You should be able to get in the seat. start the car and have it work with out jockeying your butt to make it work. IF that is what Nissan says you have to do to make it stay out. then they can have the car back. But to me it would be a lot cheaper to change sensors, change module or master computer before that happens.. Anyway it should and will be fixed to my satisfaction or they will get it back..

UPDATE had several problems with that dang pass air bag lite. Now will give the full story, When i got the new Murano (S) the one thing i wanted was leather,But being that car didnt have leather only fabric, The dealer decided to put leather in in for me (no cost to me) that is when i started to get the light but there was no thoughts of the light and interior. After a couple of weeks messing with this thing they decided to try an replace the leather on the pass side, thinking this was the problem. They were going to order the covers from Nissan. Nissan said the the leather would not match with what was put in (apperently it was a after market the made the covers) So the dealership did me right. They took back the New Murano (S) with less than 2k miles and let me drive home in a Murano (SL) pretty well loaded out, Dont get me wrong it wasnt free. But they cut me one hell of a deal on it. In finance they said how in the hell did you get this deal... oh well. I am happy now.. Should have just got this originally and would have been happy all along...

Mine is doing this also, 2015 Platinum, less than a month old. I have to turn off the ignition and restart the engine to make the light go off. Maybe they will issue a recall when they find out what is causing the problem. I'm sure they wouldn't won't a death or serious injury to occur if the airbag is not working.:(

HEY GUYS.. I just sent a note to Nissanusa off the website and complained about this lite. They sent me a note back saying they opened up a order for this and that someone will be getting in contact with me and the dealer by the end of the day tomorrow .(9-11) I think all of us having this problem to send a note to Nissan and let them know. It seems like it is a scattered problem. I have talked to a couple of owners and they say they hadn't had a problem. Send them a note.. lets see if we can get this pain in the a$$ problem solved.

I agree with you. I don't like that the light stays on all the time (when the seat is unoccupied). It catches your eye.

GM's passenger airbag lights work the same way though.

My F150's passenger airbag light stays off if the seat is unoccupied or if it's occupied by someone over the minimum weight requirement. That's how I wish the Murano's worked too.

Oh well, not really that big of an issue.
