just replaced OEM screen with colour screen. Need help!

hi guys.

With much help from the great guys on this forum (especially zebelkhan) I replaced my OEM orange screen with a 7" colour one. I will take some pics later on :)

I installed a TV tuner also and now get TV running to the screen :) DVD player to come later on.

I need help with an interesting issue though. The screen has buttons and the IR sensor on the bottom. This is all blocked by the OEM screen cover/shroud which is good cause it looks factory now. Problem is that the remote control doesnt work now because the sensor is blocked.

Is there anyway around this problem?

The way I did it was to actually disassemble the screen, unsolder the IR receiver off the buttons PC board, extend its wires and place it down below. A less "clean" job would be to dril a hole on the MO's screen face plate so the IR receiver can "see" the remote.

I will take a picture of where I now have the receiver and post.
thanks again zeb :)

I don't know if I am handy enough to be unsoldering IR sensors..... I don't want to drill a hole either in the screen face plate.

Hoping there is a creative solution out there that I havnt thought about...

Hi zeb,

can you post the picture when you have a chance? I may give this a try. Whats the worst that could happen? The IR might stop working but that aint working currently anyway :D

Will any standard electrical wire work?

Well anything is possible but I can almost guarantee you that by the time you add up the cost of parts, labour, time and frustration, an easier (and potentially cheaper) way would be to trade your MO in for a new model with the NAV.
