Is the Bose SAT Compatible?

The following information is based on my research and may have errors. I will not guarantee accuracy.

I will not be responsible for any damage you do to your equipment, based on this information!

Yes! It's compatible!

This picture was taken in June 2003, in spite of being told SAT did not work in the Murano.

Image

The XM/Sirius SAT modules made by Clarion are identical for all Nissan/Infiniti products that have the SAT button.

For the Murano, here's an example harness that works. (This harness is not OEM, but is compatible and was used to make the SAT functional.)

Image

Image

The connector labelled "To SAT receiver" connects to the mating connector as seen here.

Image

The connectors labeled for the Bose head unit attach to back of the radio.

The SAT connector plugs into the highlighted connector.

The other connector replaces the harness connector that plugs into the left black connector. The harness plugs into the remaining connector.

Image

The OEM harness and SAT receiver are presently available in the USA, for various Infiniti and Nissan models. Differences between kits are in the harness provided, if at all. Originally, no matter which kit you get, you will get an antenna, but it appears the antenna is now separate from many dealers.

Image

You will also get the Tuner in a box with accessories to help you install it. The tuner is underneath the center cardboard area.

It's time to remove the spare tire as well as the POS OEM subwoofer. The sub is wired with a connector, but there's also a clip that holds the wire/connector onto the sub. It's pretty easy to remove. I'm sure you can figure it out. Here's a picture anyway.

http://www.nissanmurano.org/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=3911&size=big&papass=&sort=1

One final piece needs to be removed. By now you should realize that the location of the XM receiver is not under the rear seat. It's under a metal structure just behind the rear seat. The metal structure is covered by a flexible rubber sheet held onto the car with plastic snap clips. There are 6 snap clips in all. You can see them in the following photo, along with some of the holes they go into.

http://www.nissanmurano.org/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=3905&size=big&papass=&sort=1

As you can see, I broke one of the snap clips. But no problem, I just went down the to Nissan parts department and bought a couple of them for 35 cents each.

When you lift up the rubber cover you'll see where the XM receiver will be installed. To the right is the OEM amplifier.

http://www.nissanmurano.org/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=3894&size=big&papass=&sort=1

Here's a closeup of where the XM receiver will be installed:

http://www.nissanmurano.org/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=3895&size=big&papass=&sort=1

All you have to do is remove the OEM bolts on the right side. The holes on the left have no bolts in them.

The kit comes with all 4 bolts to attach the XM receiver brackets to the car. I used the kit bolts for the left bracket. But I used the OEM bolts for the right bracket because I didn't think the kit boltts were long enough.

The next step is to attach the brackets to the XM receiver using the bolts that came with the kit:

http://www.nissanmurano.org/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=3889&size=big&papass=&sort=1

The brackets are well marked and have small tabs on them to force correct alignment. It's difficult to mess things up.

http://www.nissanmurano.org/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=3890&size=big&papass=&sort=1

At this point I installed the receiver/bracket assembly to the car. There's a photo later that shows it installed and wired up. The bottoms of the brackets have little tabs that force correct installation. What could be easier? Provided, of course, you have a metric socket set because the space is so small to tighten the bolts.

I didn't manage to get pictures of running the antenna wire through the rubber conduit the rear window washer tube goes through. It took me a while to figure out how to do it, but in the end I pulled the rubber conduit out of its sockets on either end, then I pulled the washer tube out of the conduit.

Once the tube was out it was much easier to push the pink plastic plug on the end of the antenna wire through the rubber conduit, then push the washer tube back through. Here's a picture of the antenna in its final location:

http://www.nissanmurano.org/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=3892&size=big&papass=&sort=1

The antenna is magnetic and sticks firmly to the galvanized sheet metal. You can also see the washer tube connector. One side of the tube just pulls right out, and pushes back on when reconnecting later.

I basically followed the downloaded instructions to route the antenna wire from right to left beneath the roof liner, then down the side liner panels to intersect with the car wiring harness. But rather than pull out the rubber rear hatch gasket, I just pulled it up to expose the gap between the gasket and the edge of the liners. It was pretty easy to stuff the wire into the gap. Every 6-8 inches I wrapped the wire with foam pad tape that came with the kit. I pushed on the foam pad to get the wire into the gap.

One area of the top liner panel was difficult to get the wire into the gap until I removed the cargo tie down clip. I'm sure you'll see how to do it. It just snaps right off with a flat head screwdriver, and then pushes back on again with your fingers.

I used tie wraps that came with the kit to transition from behind the liner panels onto the harness:

http://www.nissanmurano.org/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=3906&size=big&papass=&sort=1

After tightening the tie wraps, I snipped off the excess and spun them around so the cut ends were out of the way so no one would cut themselves.

Then I used more foam pad tape to finish running the antenna wire and bundling up the excess:

http://www.nissanmurano.org/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=3907&size=big&papass=&sort=1

Before putting the car back together, I called XM with my 3-month activation code and waited until I was receiving the signal and everything was working correctly.

Just reverse the disassembly instructions to put your car back together. It took about 20 minutes to get everything reinstalled. The only problem was wiggling the side storage compartments back in and trying to line up the tabs.

If you have any questions I'm happy to answer.

I did mine on Saturday. I got my kit from Grubb's and it did not include the metal brackets; I just used the double sided spacer pad to stick the sat receiver to the shelf (it hangs off about 1/2 an inch.)

I used an antenna I already had (from a previous xm radio) but instead of the metal plate you used I stuck it to the metal cross piece in the brake light cavity (when the tailgate is up and the cover is removed from the brake light cavity, there is a metal cross piece at the bottom of the cavity; the antenna sticks there great.)

Other than that I routed the antenna wire pretty much exactly as you did (no Bose sub to remove on mine though.)

This is really about as close to a no-brainer install as you can get.

You ran the antenna wire through the rubber conduit? Did you have to remove the washer tube first, or was the plug on the end of the antenna wire small enough to feed it through with the washer tube still in place?

Like Trbayth, I simply placed my antenna on the cross-piece in the brake light compartment. The antenna's magnetic attachment keeps it in place. I did detach the washer tube, pull it through the conduit, and remove the conduit before pulling the antenna lead through, then re-assembled everything. Piece-o-cake.

Thanks to all contributors

I just wanted to thank all of the contributors to this great forum. I used all of the information that was posted to successfully install Sirius Radio in my newly acquired 2004 Murano. Was very happy to find help regarding the Antenna message that I was getting on my OEM screen. Will get splitter tomorrow to fix the problem. Thanks again, you guys rock!

hi,

I just finished installing my XM receiver, and looking at the last picture in your instructions, my receiver is exacly the same as yours. However, after installing it, I get a message on the screen saying "loading Antenna". I looked through all forums, and I see some people that needed a splitter for the antenna, others needed to ground the receiver, I even called Grubbs and they said I need another cable, which they sent to me but I don't know where it goes, anyway, I'm at a loss and trying to figure out how to finalize this installation and get it to work. Do you have any idea what could cause the message to appear on the screen? Or should I just ignore it and activate an XM account?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

2003 Unwired Murano and Confused

I have read this entire site after my Nissan dealership told me that my 2003 Murano was not wired for SAT Radio and cannot install for it for me. This site has confused me as to what I need for the install and a detailed installation. Is there a detailed installation site I can go to and print off show I can show the person that will install my XM Radio. Also please give me the exact website and kit that I need to buy. Thanks.

Look at the first page of this thread. You will need the XM tuner kit with the wiring harness kit shown in the photos. I am not sure if the kit with the harness is still available. You will need to email or call some of the Nissan dealers mentioned in the thread to find out if those are still available. Be sure to specify that you need the wiring harness that runs between the XM tuner and the Bose radio head in the console.

I think I answered my own question. I now have my XM installed and I can hear all channels. If you are having the message Antenna on the screen.........Simply press really hard on the Antenna connection to make sure you have a good connection.. Seems crazy but true. I still do not see the name of the song or artist, but not to worried about it. I have had XM long enough to know the channels by heart.

#364 ·
The antenna connectors do have to be push in firmly for a proper connection.

To see the artist and title info, push in on the PUSH AUDIO knob on the right side of the radio control panel. As dumb as it seems, you will need to do this each time you turn on the XM.

If you look through the menu settings, there is a section that allows the XM display to default to station number or station name. That setting will remain set when the XM is powered on/off.

03 Murano install

So question overall. My local dealer, Haldeman Nissan in NJ, called Nissan who told them 03s can't have the XM tuner installed. 04 is the first year. So the dealer told me that there was an XM tuner kit for the 04 which they could install (but would be unrefundable) but did not know how to order the harness.

I've seen two part numbers in another thread for the Infinti G35 that work for Muranos: B8377-5Y700 and B8377-5Y710. Can anyone verify that one of these is what needs to be ordered?

I also see a harness available at Grubbs, is this one of the above part numbers?

Hi everyone. My fiancée picked up an ’07 Murano SL last week and we absolutely love it. I have been reading up on how to add Sirius to the head unit so we can dump our aging Starmate ST1 (yes the original) receiver. My question is, some of you guys placed the antenna in the bay where the third brake light is. How does this affect reception and how does the metal plate keep from shifting around? I would have liked to have placed the antenna on the roof but I am not comfortable cutting a notch in the frame. I also saw the sigma on glass antenna. It looks huge but does anyone have any experience with that antenna? Thanks for any insight.

here's a lik showing the antenna inside a titan:
http://www.titantalk.com/forums/att...ior-discussion/22728d1143830023-installed-oem-sirius-sigma-antenna-04-sigma.jpg

nevermind i see the velcro holding the plate in place.

#369 ·
I ended up installing the antenna on the roof as per instructions, the notch was easy enough and can be done with a file. The whole install took 30 minutes and most of that was removing spare tire hatch and left storage bin. I did not opt for the hatch install because I live a little North and have had some reception problems with just minimal sky blockage The antenna on the roof looks great and is not really noticable.

#371 ·
I used the Sirius low profile antenna that is recommended with the Sirius tuner. The kit part numbers are 999U9-VS010 and 999U9-VS001 but that is for a 2003 to 2005 Murano. I just used a regular metal file, the edge is not very thick and it went fast. (use the edge) Just make sure you use the antenna that is compatible with the tuner, XM or Sirius, there are lots of posts on here that list the kits and if you do a little looking, you will find the prices vary by as much as $100.00.

I would like to thank everyone in this post for all the valuable information. Following Onarum's post and pics i was able to easily install Sirius in my fiancee's 07 Murano. The toughest part was figuring how to route the antenna wire down the side frame after coming though the headliner. It took me 1.5hrs because i was cautious and I was checking the pics and making sure i did not break any clips. I picked up the upholstery tool from Autozone and it made clip removal a snap. I ordered the tuner and mini antenna from Grubbs. The brackets were not needed as I used the double sided foam to fix the tuner. i did not create a ground plane in the 3rd brake light area but will if necessary. After reinstalling all the parts i took out i felt like such pro installer because everything looks stock LOL.

Thanks again everyone. This forum is great.

Just bought a used 07 with the Bose stereo. I know nothing about electronics and stereos. With other vehicles there had to be a SAT or AUX button to have the satellite radio hard wired. With this set up from Grub all I do is plug it in under the back seat and place my antenna somewhere and the satellite info will show on my screen? By cycling through the mode button on the steering wheel it will just start showing up after the AM and FM channels?

#376 ·
Paid $75 to a local place for installation. They were very leery that it would work due to no SAT button. Turned out to be as easy for them as I said it would be. Antennae in the third brake light works great. Screen shows channel name, number, artist, and song. All the preset buttons work as well. I'm totally satisfied with SIRIUS, Grubb Performance, and my installer. I have an 07 SL with Bose (no nav).
