For the most part my Murano is smooth whenever breaking. However, I do experience a single very noticeable jerk at about 10-15mph....but the really goofy thing about it is that I experience that jerking ONLY at this one stop sign that I have to come to every day on my way to work. Haha, it's very odd but every time I come to this stop sign there is a jerk as I'm coming down to a stop. Every other stop sign and every other time I come to a stop or slow down or anything else, my Murano is as smooth as can be. It's only that one stop sign.... I have no explanation for it; it's very odd haha

 

I get that sensation too while slowing down, like it suddenly quits engine braking. I don't notice it every time , Other than that little thing it works flawlessly. Think its the nature of this beast .

 

Torque converter releases around 20 mph while decelerating, and it decouples the engine from the transmission. This is why it feels like a slight surge in these situations. The rate of deceleration is usually what causes it to be noticeable or not.

 

Thanks for the info guys, if it is an issue I guess I'll just wait till it gets worse.

 

So a quick update, I gave my murano to the dealership to take a look at it. Unfortunately when they were driving it, it was only doing the smaller jerk at 40km/h. When I talked to them afterwards they said the computer is sending a signal to the transmission to "shift" when it gets to a certain point. The previous CVTs didn't have this feature and it's purpose is to simulate a transmission with gears, he suspects it is due to customer feedback complaining it doesn't feel like it's shifting.

If this is the case Nissan really did some backwards ass thing with this CVT, why spend all the time developing this time of transmission only to program to act like a normal transmission.

Because those that were never used to or ever liked the way a CVT transmission worked, were potential customers Nissan was not getting, I was one of them....Many years ago when I got into my first Murano and took it for a test drive I decided not to purchase it because I did not sense the feel of a typical shifting transmission,,,,come forward many years to 2015, I test drove the newest Murano with the simulated shift points and it was so much like a normal transmission, that it convinced me to purchase the vehicle, had it not had this feature, I once again would not have bought it....

so Nissan gained a new customer....on the flip side, they might lose others because of the simulation.......

I for one have always liked the turbine power sensation of the CVT. Floor the pedal, hear the roar, watch the speedometer wrap around with the engine noise constant. Sort of like my 1957 Buick.
