Try some Dawn dishwashing soap mixed in water.

If that doesn't do it, rub some gasoline on it.

In either case you will remove any wax you have on the vehicle too, and in both instances rinse with clear water once the tar is off.


NOTE: If gasoline won't take it off, it's not tar.

I've used this stuff, it's fairly gentle but takes awhile to melt the tar. I hate to admit it but i've used gas on stubborn tar. Either way, wash and wax the area immediately after removal.

 

I bought a bottle of Turtle Waz bug and tar remover - it was the only brand that didn't require immediate washing and waxing after use - and it worked pretty good. It even said I could buff the area with their product. But I didn't dare - I ended up rinsing off the area with water afterwards...

 

I'm with samwlee on the product. I have used the Turtle wax bug and tar remover for years with good results. You can find it anywhere, K-Mart,Wal-Mart, all the auto stores and even in super-markets.

 

I too have used the Turtle Wax B&T Remover with great success.
