What exactly is the point.

Hey guys, so I bought a 09 murano S, and am just wondering what the point of the push button start is, if you don't have the intelligent key. I assume I don't have it because when I get in the car and just hit the button, the dispay shows a little picture telling you to insert the key first. So if I have to put the key thing in the little slot anyway, then hit the button..what is the purpose of the button at all I ask? haha.

Thanks in advance.

I'm with you. I carry the key fob like I would the key because I KNOW I'll forget it somewhere or lose it. The push to start is just a gimmick IMO. The one thing I don;t like is if I'm sitting waiting for the wife to come out of the store I can't just turn the key back a notch and turn the engine off while keeping the radio on. You have to hit the button once to turn EVERYTHING off then again to restart the radio.
The other thing that happened to me was...and again, I was waiting in the car for my wife to run in the store while I sat in a parking spot....oh shyt I see a patern here!. After turning the car off (I figured I'd shut it off and just leave the radio on) I realized that my wife had that stupid key fob in her purse!!!! DAMN IT! I had to sit there for 30 minutes and NO RADIO! Stupid idea....give me a friggin' key!

You kinda sorta can turn it back a notch. Just push the button twice rapidly and it goes to acc. and the radio never misses a beat.

because it looks cool!!

and for LE or SL with tech package, you don't need to insert the key, just press the button.

and double tapping the start button turns it from ON to ACC mode without having to restart the radio. But you have to get the rhythm right or it won't work

My wife tells me the same thing..

At least I think she was talking about her LE????? :D

I'm a "push button" fan, yet only if it works with the fob in your pocket..

Actually, wish they could just provide a small chip like what they can place in animals. Then you just have your doc place the chip under the skin, you program the chip for your vehicle and let it take the place of the fob all together..

For 2011, they all have the pushbutton.

Well damn, haha thanks for the responses. No doubt it still looks cool, but it would be nice to have the ikey option. I wonder if anyone has successfully converted there non ikey to one that works like an ikey. Probably a pretty involved process i imagine.

That brings me to another question that i guess ill throw in this thread (im allowed to hijack my own thread right? haha

It seems that the oem lighting isnt the greatest on this car (non HID). Since HID is alittle more expensive than i feel like going atm, (and most say that those HID kits are a no no) - my options are basically replacing the standard bulbs with something alittle better than stock (i.e. silverstars, phillips xtremes, ect). I saw in a post somewhere that the headlights are type H11, and in certain models you can double your output just by putting in a type H9. Is this correct? And is that for the low beam or high beam? All of my previous auto's have had one bulb that covered both, haha.

Thanks guys.

I love not having to take the key out of my pocket to start or lock/unlock. The inconvenience is when I drive the wife's car - I always have to take off the seatbelt and climb back out of the car to fish the keys out.

intelligent key refers to the key having a proximity sensor and senses the key's pressence and therefore not having to insert the key when turning on the car. This is not a standard feature on 2nd gen but the push button start is standard. if you do not have intelligent key, you have to insert the key into a slot under the pushbutton for the car to work.

Ahhh ok. Being my first Nissan with the intellegent key, I didn't realize that. Ok well...lol...why the heII bother with a button then if you have to insert a key anyhow?...lol...I guess that was the OPs question.

the fob for non-intelligent key is physically nearly identical aside from intelligent key having 4 buttons versus 3. it is also just an oval shaped fob. there is no traditional key to turn. The metal key inside the fob is for lock operations only.

after inserting the key, the operation is same as with the intelligent key with the START/ON/ACC modes being controlled by pressing the start button.

I realize that now but having to insert the key then push a button seems like a gimmick to me. If you're inserting a key, just turn it in one motion...they way we've done since the beginning of time! lol. Even the intelligent key thing is lost on me.
