He y'all,

I have been experiencing problems with my 2012 Nissan Murano CVT. When at a stopped position the vehicle will not accelerate properly. When the gas is pressed, the vehicle jerks slightly and slowly lurches forward, until it hits roughly 10mph, then accelerates normally. It takes around 10 seconds from the time I hit the gas to reach full/normal acceleration. This happens even when I put the peddle all the way to the floor. The RPMs never go past 2k until the vehicle reaches the speed at which it accelerates normally (even when not in limp mode). Originally this problem only seemed to happen when the vehicle had been running for a while. However, now the problem happens 90% of the time (runs ok the first couple miles of the day). The problem persists both when the check engine light is off and on. The vehicle is currently throwing code P0746 "Pressure Control Solenoid". I believe it may have been throwing additional codes when I took it to Nissan.

Unfortunately the "Certified Nissan Techs" have little to no knowledge of their CVTs and their only solution is to completely replace the CVT. While I am sure this would do the trick, it seems a little drastic. The Nissan dealer is telling me that I need to spend 5k on a new CVT. The vehicle is out of warranty.

Any ideas to what is going on inside my Murano's CVT?

I appreciate your time and knowledge.

Hi. What country are you in. I thought the states had a 100k mile warranty or 10yrs on the CVT's to get people to buy them. Not like the rest of the world.
Do you have a consumers guarantee act or similar..
I have just had to replace the CVT in my 07 recently bought but purchased an extended warranty the only covered $5K NZD but the dealer covered the other $2.5k as I only had it 4mths. Our symptoms were violent shaking under acceleration though.

I am in the US. 2012 Muranos are covered to 60K

That's only good up to 2010.

did you find the solution? I have the same exact issue which is driving me crazy.

What year, how many miles?

If you're experiencing the symptoms in the post you quoted, have both your battery and alternator load tested. Also make sure your battery terminal posts are totally free of corrosion and snug. Marginal voltage will produce the symptoms you noted, it can also produce random error codes...

I'm surprised MuranoSL2003 didn't suggest getting the CVTz50 app to monitor certain aspects of your CVT and reveal any codes stored in the TCM. I have a 1st Gen '03 that I've been using the app on for a couple of months. The app has helped me better understand what's going on and how to drive with a troubled CVT. I feel it's worth getting. I started providing some footage of that app usage in this post, if interested... Rear differential, transfer case, CVT filter/fluid...

As someone mentioned already make sure that the battery and charging system is in good shape.
After, and even if that cures the problem: change the i -line cvt fluid FILTER and CVT fluid the entire system FLUSH not just a drain IF you can do it yourself it won't be to expensive (compared to transmission replacement. ) New transmission fluid does a ggod job in CLEANING inside. Off course I am assuming you aren't low in fluid due to leaks (check all hoses for leaks too).

This happened to me a week after I bought it (used) @104K. Lucky I bought the extended warranty. It was replaced. Wondering if it was just a temporary reprieve. Apparently the cheap Jatco CVT is the issue. Wondering if there's any steps to take to keep 'er alive...

I had problems like that on my -09.
My car worked fine in a couple of years. I bought it used and it was 7 years old when I got it. The problem was (until today) that when I wanted to start moving it was not certain that the car would have the power to safely join the traffic. Like you wrote, some 90 % it had some issues. Started well and stalled after a second or two. A second or two later it worked fine again. I could never know when this would happen. I started to wait for big gaps in traffic before I had the guts the join.
The engine light lighted some times. I went many times to the car repair shop and they used their computer to find what was wrong. I don't remember the code... "Lean mixture" or something like that. This happen too often. 2-3 times yearly. The started to believe that it has to do with the CVT controller unit. more than 300 000 km driven. I change the motor oil every 10 000 km. We change the gearbox oil too. We washed the gearbox last year. There was nothing unusual. This stalling was the only problem. We learned to live with it. No rushing into traffic and everything would be ok.
Lasti week I changed the sparking plugs. It made a big difference. It did not fix the problem but when I changed the plugs I notised that the "OEM 165761AA1A Air Intake Fresh Air Duct Hose Assembly for Nissan Van SUV" (part number 165761AA1A) was not intact. It had two rather big holes in it.
I got the part yesterday. Changed it today. The testdrive was nice smooth and the car was doing just the right things. Joining heavy traffic - no problem, accelerate from standing still - no problem. I am happy again.

Thank you so much for leading me in this direction. I was having the same issue on my 2012 Nissan Murano (80K miles). At a stop, whenever I wanted to accelerate, the car sometimes did but most of the time it would take awhile to accelerate. I was getting the P0101 Mass Air Flow sensor alarm. I replaced the sensor but same problems. I thought I might have a bad CVT transmission!? Then after reading your post, I took a look at the "Air Intake Hose" (right next to the Mass Air Flow Sensor) and sure enough, it had a huge gash. Went to local auto parts store and $130 bucks and about 30 minutes later, car is accelerating like it should!
