I have a new to me 2009 Murano, love it. Being on this forum made me decide to pull out my detailed CARFAX report and read through it. Can't believe the work that has been done on it, I sure hope the issues are all taken care of. LOL

Here is the list and mileage the work was done at:

11,000- Tailgate/trunk lock replaced
21,674- Power seat motor replaced
23,892- Cylinder head gasket replaced,Transfer case replaced,Transfer case overhauled/replaced
25,280- wheel locks installed (not sure what this means)
49,065- Transfer case overhauled/replaced ( again ??)
65,869- Transaxle replaced , Catalytic converter replaced

and about another 23 service records but all oil changes/ tires rotated etc.

Is there anything major missing from this list that the 2009's are infamous for ?

Nope, but the Murano in general has a bad habit of popping transfer cases. Nice little $3000 repair since the only option is remove and replace as Nissan doesn't make any parts available to rebuild them.

It looks like it was replaced 2x on the vehicle report.... or maybe it was entered wrong by the technicians at the Nissan dealership. The car has been maintained only at Nissan dealerships before I purchased it.

Very thankful that I didn't own it back then haha. And hopefully everything that has been replaced will never have to be done again. The records are so meticulous on it I am struggling to see how it ever got to be that bad so I am wondering if it was just recalls that prompted the previous owners to have the work done.
Maybe nothing was ever really "wrong" but they did it anyway because it was under warranty or recalled....

**off to search recalls on that year now**

And in the same week we get a post from Halwg stating he has his Murano from 2009 and has nothing but good things to say:

http://www.nissanmurano.org/forums/83-2nd-gen-2009/179546-3-years-very-good-vehicle.html

I think it is the luck of the draw, good and bad with BMW, Porsche, Chevy and the Murano.
Just hope you got a good one in your garage.
oh gosh don't get me wrong, I love my Murano.... just very grateful the issues mine had were from when someone else owned it and I am hoping for them it was all covered by their warranty back then, I don't believe it has any left now.
Well maybe on the CVT, I saw that it's good up until 120,000 miles transferable warranty... so I may still be covered on that if something were to go wrong.

Nope. I did not pass judgement but I think we will see both types of troublesome and trouble-free cars from all makers.

Actually mine is a 2012 that I bought in November 2011. Not a 2009.

One thing I try not to do is buy the first 2 years after a redesign. Usually by then most bugs are worked out. The 5th generation Explorer I'm driving came out in 2011, but mine is a 2014. From the Explorer forum you can see lots of problems in the 2011 and 2012 years, but declining now that it's been out going on 5 years. I think that's true of most vehicles.

Agree 100%, I figured the 2014 I bought would have most of the bugs and kinks worked out by now. I think the redesign 2015 Mo will start a new bug cycle.

This forum will be a lonely place when they start a Gen-3 forum thread and there is only one guy posting there until others join him/her.

And if I would pay attention to Halwg's sig, I would see it was a 2012.
PS, I can't count years on my fingers either.

I think AWD versions are plagued by more mishaps or so it appears.
Living in not so snowing Ga, I don't see the need for it down here.

I think like most car owners, they don't participate in forums or discuss their cars unless something has gone wrong with it, you can look up any year and any make/model and read threads on issues they have.

I just hope, like I said before, the issues are all taken care of on mine. And if it were not for CARFAX reports these days I would be none the wiser about all the work that has been done on mine.

I tell you what, I have seen pics of the new one and I would LOVE to be that guy !! haha. I plan on purchasing the 3rd generation for my next car I love this one so much. I want it in that burnt orange color, the LE with black leather.. !;)

The way I see it is this:

Some 2009 models had defective head gaskets. Yours was replaced so it is not defective any more.
Some transfer cases failed early. Yours failed twice so in my book that has to do with the driver. You are the one driving it now so it is good to go.
Transaxle was defective (I am guessing that means CVT). Since I attributed failed transfer cases to the bad driver, I am guessing he or she had a lot to do with the failed CVT as well. Now it has a new transmission and that driver is no longer driving it. It is under warranty anyways so your are again good to go.
Same thing with the Cat converter.

I don't see a problem here at all... Enjoy your Murano...

I like your way of thinking !!
It also looks to me, based on the details on the report I have that the 1st owners leased it and did not drive it much, I think it may have been a summer car at a summer home in the Providence area... the mileage was only like 4000 a year for the first 2 years. So maybe sitting idle in a garage was not good for it.

The next person drove it constantly and racked up 20,000 miles a year... so maybe it was driven hard or by them and their teenage drivers haha

I like the looks of it, but I'd wait at least a year or 2 to let the bugs get worked out. Then I may consider it. Or you could be the first on your block to own one and help Nissan work out any bugs! Do you think they would pay you for that? ;)
