Hi Everyone:
Just starting to think when would be the best time to put in synthetic oil for the first time. On my Infiniti G, I switched to full synthetic on the first oil change as well as on my wife's V6 Camry. Looking for what everyone is doing.
Thanks for the great web site:

I did notice the 0-20 oil recommended by Nissan. I guess things have changed over the years. My Infiniti G35 is the identical engine and uses 5-30 weight.
I assume that Mobil One and others have 0-20 full syn products?

For all my cars (mine and my wife's) I buy Mobil 1 at Walmart (or sometimes Amazon if it is on special for $22.80 for the 5 qt size). Then I buy either a good filter (Mobile 1 or high end Bosch) or the specific Nissan filter. In the most recent case I bought Mobil 1 0w20 on Amazon for $23 (5qt size) and on eBay bought 4 Nissan oil filters with the crush washer for $31. That results in about $30 for an oil change and the peace of mind of knowing exactly what is being put in my Mo.
Two oil changes per year for me (that results in about 6K miles between changes).

You can do it any time after the break-in oil comes out.

Been doing it since 1977, often with cars pushing 100K miles. Never had a problem with doing so.

Are we not every 5K miles for oil changes? i was told by my dealer that we are ? are we ?
With synthetic you can go farther. But most of my driving is city and I average about 10k a year. So it averages out to about twice a year and 5000 miles. Tire rotation at the same time Nice simple done:D

Mine came with 5w30, at least that is what is displayed on the sticker. Should I be using 5w30 from now on?

5-30 is just fine, and it's what Nissan calls for.

It also won't hurt if you run a 10-30 or other slightly heavier weights. The very low end multi-viscosity oils help gas mileage, which is one reason manufacturers recommend them.

Stay with synthetic. It's superior oil for a number of reasons (you can google it).

Please see page 9-2 in the owners manual where it says 0w-20 but 5w30 may be used. Use a good quality oil and filter and change it as per the maintenance schedule.
I went to the Mobil 1 web site and for Nissan vehicles both 0w-20 and 5w-30 are recommended. They talk about the "extra" fuel mileage with 0w-20, but in my case, we don't do any winter/cold weather driving, so for my first oil change, I am going to stick with the 5w-30 that I have been using in my Infiniti with the same engine that is in the new Murano.
Happy Motoring everyone
