Just got my 1st free oil change at the dealer they used 0W20 Mobile One super synthetic
I had planned on going to that after my freebe. How far do you all push the oil changes it says 1 year 20k miles. how does it work with the 10 year 100k extended warranty do I just document my oil changes thay I do myself? and is there a oil change reminder on these cars?

Wow, this generation sure uses thin oil. If you do your own maintenance, not only do you need to document that you did the oil changes, but you need to save all your receipts for the oil/filters you purchased (...I also suggest scanning them in case you lose the receipts and/or they become unreadable after a few years).

This is because if you have a mechanical problem that requires you to invoke the warranty then they'll want more than just your word that you properly maintained your vehicle. Otherwise, you may have to fight with the dealership over any warranty claim.

As far as OCIs--follow the maintenance schedule for the driving conditions most applicable to your case (e.g. normal vs. severe)

I have 2015 by the book Nissan recommend 0w20 as alternative 5w30

I do my oil changes myself every 4K, and use
Castrol EDGE 0W-20 Advanced Full Synthetic

At 35K mark, I have sent oil for analysts, it came back very nice but index which indicates how good oil protects the engine was low at 4K,
Im very skeptical it will last 10K, 5-6K for sure.

I've been changing oil every 5Kmiles for the Murano & 10Kmiles for my Avalon, with same Mobil 1 0W-20 full-syncthetic.
The used oil in the Murano looks thicker & darker (vs. the Avalon) ... I think 5K is a good interval. I have done this on three Nissan 3.5VQ (04Maxima, 07Murano & now 17Murano).
The used oil in the Avalon still looks decent. It uses a reusable canister and I can see the filter element still looks good. So I feel OK with the 10K interval.

I have always used synthetic , usually Mobil1 in all my vehicles for the last 20+ years. Currently the Murano, a CRV and a Corvette. Always change oil myself. To me it's to provide a high level of lubrication efficiency. I don't consider it a way of extending oil change intervals. I use the vehicle manufacturer's recommended oil change interval and even shorten it a bit. Oil changes are cheap. Engines are not.
"and is there a oil change reminder on these cars?" quote
Yes there is. The procedure is in your manual.

I always have my oil changed between 4,000 and 5,000 miles regardless of the oil used. If you stay within the Manufacturer's recommended limits, you are safe against premature engine failure. Although I never hear of an engine failing because of the type of oil used.

Motor oils are vastly superior now to what they were 20 or 30 years ago. They last longer, resist breakdown from heat and moisture contamination better, and lubricate better.

Regardless, I consider it money well invested to change slightly more often than manufacturers recommend.

BMW specifies 15K mile change intervals for oil and filter, but only if you use the very few synthetic oils which meet their specific service standards, and only for normal, not severe, service. I know that synthetics can indeed last that long and perform well, but it requires certain driving conditions and should be confirmed with oil tests to determine whether the oil is breaking down. There is also the question about whether BMW is just trying to reduce oil changes during the warranty period and disregarding whether the extendec change intervals will result in engine wear that manifests after the warranty expires.

Therefore, I change oil and filter in our BMW cars at no more than 10K mile intervals (usually less), and that seems like plenty.

I'm a twice a year changer, irrespective of mileage, and have always done my own changes with a record log and receipts. Goes back 40 years but the first 10 were spotty as the cars were crap and the funds were non-existent. However, since 1988 I have used only synthetic (whatever is on sale at Canadian Tire) and a good filter (not F). However, the Murano has a service contract till August, so i have yet to dirty my fingers under the hood.

Not sure about the under tray and if it gets in the way of replacing the filter but I will youtube it when spring 2020 comes around for the 1st driveway service

We use the Nissan dealer so there will not be any question about service. However, Once I asked for a report on our past service (4 years) and was told there were no records past our last oil change. I was told they had upgraded their system and lost all history. Confidence, huh?
I do have paper copies just in case. Fair warning.
