Finally! Now we can have the alternator taken care of and go on long trips without worry....

Wonder if Nissan will refund the cost of repair to those who had to pay out of warrnty?

...Usually it takes it happening to you to realize that having an alternator fail is not just like going in for an oil change at some point when you see the light go on...(
The fear of it failing is just as bad, if not worse, than it actually failing. Thanks to this problem, and for the first time in my life, at times I wished I had my old Honda with 170K miles on it to travel with than this brand new car. Hopefully this recall will take that fear away...:4:

Its based on VIN number, which itself is tied to production date.
You mean model year, because early 2003 models were manufactured in 2002 and the recall document does not have or show any 2002 production dates....:D

I am WAY too old for the rest of you--I just like the small SUV look and performance--can't stand to be caught in a "little old lady" luxury car, even if I AM Old (64). I don't like to use the "O" word--just MATURE, please!!
First, welcome! Second, our membership ranges from 17 to 78 so you do not have the seniority here...:D
And we all love our Muranos for different reasons. I also like the way it looks and with the alternator problem solved, I like it even more now...:)

...doesn't this infer that Nissan knew about the problem...at least, as early as late 2004, in order to FIX it my vehicle? Hmmmmm?...
Not necessarily. Most automakers use parts from different venders. More than likely not the same alternator has been installed in all Murano's hence only a range of VIN numbers have been recalled.

What a timing! Sorry about that. In a way that is a good thing because now the VP will remember you! :2:
What did you do with the plywood in your car?? I guess VP can wait....:2:
I don't know if you are out of warranty or not but if you are, at least you should be proud of yourself when you get the alternator as you were one of the big players in reminding people to file a complaint when their alternators faild. Now here comes your reward....:D

I don't think warranties are in the picture on a recall.
That is true now, but my point was if Sugar was out of warranty and there was no recall he would be out $$$$. So he should be proud of himself for helping the recall happen....:)

...they neglected to reconnect the compressor....they are going to try to locate annoying creaks and ticks I've always had with the car.....Maybe if I'm lucky they might actually fix one or both of them....
You think this maybe a bit wishfull thinking with this dealer? Have them note the fact that they forgot to reconnect the compressor on your receipt. If you had an open system and ran the compressor, you mayhave drawn in dirt that could be damaging long term....

When I made my appointment the SC did not even ask if I had the letter. Mine is going in tomorrow. Good timing though as the SES came on yesterday (The works - Lost throttle - Engine was idling only - Restart got me going but the SES stayed on)

Oh well......

I would make sure they read the code and address that issue separately of the alternator. They might pull the excuse of "oh its related to the alternator" and just replace that. Your loss of throttle and SES light suggests the electronic throttle went south.
Right on the money! The code indicated a bad TPS (Throttle position sensor) which was replaced under warranty, and I got my new alternator with part number ending on "AR". I forgot to ask if they had to remove the radiator for my alternator replacement.

I had the alternator, the TPS, the rocking chair, as well as the oil change to do today. I left the car at the dealer at 7:30 a.m., and when I got there at 5 p.m., they were still working on it....:D

Great to hear zelb! It does make me wonder though, whether the throttle body will be the next big problem area on the Murano after the alternator.

I am debating whether to take my car to the dealer to have them look at my light brown CVT fluid (which apparently is supposed to be clear), after only 26,000 miles.
I think you should have the CVT fluid checked to see why it has discolored. I have not checked mine yet either but now I am wondering.

Both times the SES came on was in very hot conditions. The first time, it was in Las Vegas traffic (107 F) when the light came on, but it went off a couple of days later when we were driving back.

When it came on the second time this past Saturday, I was waiting for my daughter in front of a movie theater with engine running and A/C on. I think outside temp was 92F or so and I let the engine idle for about 45 minutes. The light came on after I drove off to a nearby place, shut the engine off and 15 minutes later I came back to the car, started to back-up from the parking space when I lost throttle and had to restart. Then light came on.

This is what my invoice says:

"Checked with consult found DTC P2135 TP Sensor. Found ECT door sticking causing DTC, recommend replacement of ECT. Replaced ECT assemply and gasket, set idle volume air lean."

Edit: I think I am getting much better gas mileage now!!!:)

If the second failed alternator is the "faulty" one that has been recalled, Nissan should pay for the tow even if you are out of warranty. Call Nissan directly if dealer refuses to pick-up the tab.
