First, Thanks for all the help this forum has given me over the years. I just retired my '03 Munaro SL, with 147,000 + miles and still going strong (My grandson is the new proud owner of it, loved it from the age of 12).

So finally, after almost a year, I broke down and ended up with this beautiful Murano. With 6 dealers within 50 miles, I was able to get a very good deal, after going around for about three months.

Even before I picked up the car, I was already ordering parts (Tow hitch & lift air bags). I use a scooter and have a hitch carrier that it drives onto for transport.

Day two of ownership, the tow hitch and lift air bags were installed. I was ordering the third light flasher and started seeing other add-on items for the Munaro. So I started a list! And it's grown! So here is the list. As items are completed, I will mark them Finished. Photos will be added at a later date.

Feel free to ask questions.

Not sure if I’m going to install these items. I think that it might be too much Chrome.

Looking for ideas for lighting in the cargo area when opening the tailgate. What’s there is just a joke, even after replacing the bulb with LED.

Assad,

Looking good. Very sharp and I like how they blend in the front and rear. I think that putting the front mud flaps back on will ruin the look.

The bit set you're looking at doesn't work that well for metal. After drilling a small 1/8" hole where needed, I always use the following to open up the hole in metal to the desired diameter. A little expensive, but last forever and works super fast and easy. Avoid the cheap ones, they tend to bind when cutting. Lowes/Hope Depot both carry them.

https://www.amazon.com/Tools-Titanium-Multi-Metalworking-Unibit/dp/B016ITCPA4/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1527570720&sr=8-7&keywords=1+%22+unibit

Before next weekend, I'll see if I can get someone to video me showing the hole locations that I used to pass thru the wiring used with the running boards that I installed. Maybe this will help you out a little.

If those windscreens stick on with tape, be sure to clean the area they are sticking very well and finally, use denatured alcohol as the final wipe before applying the windscreens. If the tape used is 3M, heating with a hairdryer/heat gun to about 110 degrees after applying will cause the tape to bond tighter then when not applying heat. 99% of car branding is now applied this way, using 3M tape.

Keep the mods up and enjoy.

Have a good day.

Completed the running board LED install yesterday, 8 hrs total manual labor. The new drill bit help a lot, just need patience and a powerful hand drill.

Could not take pictures of the car with the lights on, been raining here real hard all day. Will do take some pics tomorrow...
Here some pictures I took during the install

Nice job Assad. Love how you used the wire loom on the inside. Can't wait to see it lit up at night.

My only recommendation, if wiring is long enough, would be to move that mass of wiring and controller in pic 6 up into the center console under the shift knob. Massive room there and you won't be all scrunched up if you have to work on it. Plus if you have to go in for any kind of service, that's not normally a place they have to dig into.

I have a nice full underbody ground lighting setup that I'm designing to compliment the running boards when not in drive. That and a few other Murano things are on hold until I'm finished setting up in the new house. Lots of fun hanging a 70" flat screen on a brick fireplace, along with center speaker, so that they are floating, no wires!

Post more pics. Rainy days can suck.

Have a good day.

Thanks Paul,

So currently I tapped into the BAT SVR (Pink) and RM LMP (Yellow) from accessory connectors to power the LEDs, so that they will come on when the open the door or when the ROOM LIGHT is on.
Each LED draws around 1.3A (12W) at full brightness, that's 1.3A X8 = 10.6A.
I replaced the RM LMP fuse from 10A to 20A to compensate for the added power.

Yesterday, I noticed, when I opened the door, both my room lamp and my LEDs were flickering, this was intermittent. I am thinking maybe because of the power draw, it was causing the circuit of the RM LAMP to flicker.

I will try to add a relay, this way I can isolate the RM LAMP circuit. I will use the RM LAMP as the trigger, which is active low, then BAT SVR and GND to power the LEDs.

Per https://www.supercircuits.com/resources/tools/volts-watts-amps-converter, 12V, 12W = 1 amp. You should only be drawing 8 amps.

I would say that you might have a weak ground. Check the ground first. Try using a body ground instead of GND.

If you didn't install diodes on the PWR SVR and RM LAMP wires that might be part of the issue too. Diodes prevent power flowing to PWR SVR when RM LAMP is tripped and vice versa.

Replace the 10 amp fuse and go with the relay if it keeps doing it. I believe that BAT SVR might also be limited to 10 amps. If that's the case, you might want to tap into the power you brought in for your audio system using the relay.

Have a good day.

Hi Paul,

You are right, I miscalculated, each LED draws around 9W, that is 0.75A/LED at full brightness, for a total of 6A for 8 LEDs, still a lot of current. If the relay fails and does not open the circuit after the RM LMP is off, then my battery will be drained very quickly.

I will use a relay and tap directly into the BAT wire, with the RM LMP being the trigger. I beleive the 2 - BAT (Red) is directly connected to the battery from the diagram below. That should be able to handle 6A, not sure if there is a fuse attached to it or not, will find out...

I believe that the entire ASC is rated only for ten amps on all the 12v output wires. Also, have you any diodes to see if that resolves the issue before getting fancy? That just might be the issue.

Have a good day.

Here are some pictures I took yesterday.

They only come on when I open the door, or when the overhead light comes on.
They do mimic the fade in/out effect of the overhead light beautifully, but if I add the relay I will loose that effect, maybe add an RC circuit afterwards.
Colors are RGB controlled via bluetooth with an app on my cell.
Brightness can be controlled via the app also.

Dressing the wheels up a little.

I was rotating tires and decided that a little change was needed.

After I got the tires off I decided to add a little color.

Looking much better, but not quite there yet.

So I figured I'd bite the bullet and start the ground lighting system that I've been buying parts for, for the last six months.

This is the first wheel that I installed the led strip on. Color is Ice Blue.

Image

I don't like how it came out. Too much light showing at the front and back of the tire. I'm going to remove the rear liners for installation and only install the led strip at the top third of the wheel wells. Led strips will be installed behind front and back bumpers to complete the ground lighting system.

I'll post a video in a couple of days of the completed project.

Have a good day.

Hi Paul,

I am not liking the blue LED on the wheel, that looks so ghetto on this luxury car.

Also whenever you install LEDs on your car, they should be out of view, you should only see the light output, not the LEDs themself.

Why don't you put them under the footstep, they will look better there.

Did you use VHT paint for your caliper?

Also the blue and the color of your car do not match very well, I would use something darker, like grey, silver or very dark color.

I have painted one of my caliper, but still waiting to install them to see what they will look like. I used the same color to match the body of my car. I completely took out the caliper and bracket and painted the whole thing.

Like I stated, I didn't like the LED's showing either. That was only temporary, mainly to see if the color matches the LED's on the running board.

I used Dupont Ceramic Caliper spray paint. I went with the blue, was so tired of seeing red and yellow on all the other cars and just wanted something different. With the wheels on, it stands out just enough to be noticed.

I did a full disassembly, wire brushed and cleaned all parts. Taped up holes, pistons and where I didn't want paint, like where the pads set. One very light coat, then two heavy coats, waiting 1 hour between coats. I then put the vinyl NISMO logo on and used VHT Clear Gloss spray paint to add three or four layers, again waiting an hour between coats. All parts were then placed under a sun lamp for 24 hours before assembly. The paint is solid and thick.

I put the car on stands Monday morning and was finally finished Friday. I have an extremally bad back which lets me only work for 1/2 hour at a time before the pain becomes unbearable.

This week I hope to get the ground lighting installed, without any LEDs showing.

Have a good day.

Already done, LOL.

My 2003 Murano had red calipers and I see them and yellow calibers everywhere now, even as a factory option.

Thanks. As far as painting goes, a good job takes time and it does show, even on a lowly caliber. The logo's are cut from high temp vinyl and sized for the calibers. You can select from quite a few different colors.

LED's just need adjustment. Didn't realize that they'd be so bright and definitely didn't like where they were showing when I ran them that low down in the wheel well. The rework will look much better I'm sure.

Have a good day.

Hi Paul,

Wondering if you can help me here.

When I bought my car, the ASC connector on the driver's side was already there, and it had 3 wires connected:
1 white and 2 black.

I was working on my car yesterday and I unplug them, now I don't remember where they were connected on the ASC connector.

No idea. Anything not working now? Also, if you have the original build sheet, it might list the add-on that the wires go to. I'm sure it's not stock.

Everything is working, it's just I can't remember where they were connected to. I tried tracing the wires with my hands, but then could not go any further. Though your car might have had the same option

I had to purchase two ASC, nothing was connected to either one until I started adding stuff. Let me know when you've gotten it figured out.

LED full ground lighting completed.

Finally finished the LED ground lighting on the Murano. Loving the way it looks. Tried to take a video of it on the road, but the lights drown it out in front.

I was at the Nissan dealer the 26th for the dreaded radar dropout, which has happened about half a dozen times since this fall. The service rep tried to insinuate that my LED lighting was the cause of the radar issue.

I kindly informed him that I probably knew more about my Murano then most of his service techs and that all add-ons and work was done to Nissan specs using the approved ASC connectors. Also, the LED's were just completed in the last week, where as this issue started several months ago.

He didn't have anything to say, other then "Let us know if it continues, there doesn't seem to be any issue."

Enjoy the pics. I'll be looking to find someone who has a high quality video camera that can take proper night shots without being flooded out with the lights so that I can post a video.

Have a good day.

Hi Paul,

It is looking really good, but I think you over did it a little.

I would just put the ground lighting on the sides, this way it would look more oem.

The front, back and under tires are way too bright and not necessary imho

It only looks too bright because of the lighting conditions. It was totally dark in my driveway and I just really wanted to show the LED lighting by itself.

When parked in a lighted lot and running, like remote starting it when coming out of wherever we are, it's much more subtle, and that's when it really looks it's best.

I tried some night time videos and pics, but they came out too glary and shaky with the Murano's headlights on with what I have to video the car with. It did not do the Murano any justice at all. I have to find someone who has access to some high quality video recording equipment to video it for me so that I can post it.

Have a good day.

PS. I believe that I'm way past trying to keep the OEM look. I'm going for one of a kind. LOL

A few changes in the making.

My nephew was helping me out and he came across some of the chrome flash that I bought when I first got my Murano and didn't use.

He finally convinced me that the taillight chrome would make them stand out.

Actually, I think that they look good, and continue the chrome line that runs on the bottom of the windows from the front to the back.

I also added a hitch light. Glows blue when the car is running and turns red when the brakes are on.

The last pic is the front emblem. I'm in the process of removing the chrome in the lettering on both sides and will have it lit with a small LED strip when the car is running. I'm hoping that the LED lighting doesn't drown out the front camera. Since it slips over the camera, I don't know how well I'll be able to seal if from light bleed from the LEDs.

Have a good day.

paul, you wouldn't happen to still have the install instruction for this impact sensor, would you? i'm trying to put an impact sensor on to a 2015 but the part you used on your 2017.5 doesn't show as compatible with the 2015's. i'm hoping with the install instruction, or if you remember how it was tied in, that i'll be able to make it work. I have accent lighting and illuminated sill plates so maybe I have the asc (but that doesn't show up in the 2015 fsm either). any help that you (or anyone else) can afford is greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

#154 ·
PM me and I'll send you the PDF.

If you have the accent lighting and sills, you already have two ASCs, one on each side.

The Impact sensor is installed under the console, on two studs that are already there for the sensor.

paul, can you tell me how you like your michilen premier ltx tires on your ride? I have a 16, platinum with 38,000 miles and my bridgestones are shot. I have been looking at these exact tires and would like to hear your thoughts on them, especially since you went a touch wider.. Have you had any issues with the wider tires, (rubbing fender) at all? thanks scot..

#156 ·
I personally love them. No rubbing anywhere. Better traction when taking off on a tight corner.

I'm hard on tires so I expect that I'll be getting a little over 40K on them before replacing them.

Mileage will be down a little with the wider tire, but I'd rather have the better traction and a little more smoother of a ride.

Have a good day.
