Since iOS 13 my CarPlay has been horrible. Some days I have to connect/disconnect 5 or 6 times to get it to start. Then it would have audio stutter. Anyone else having this problem?

I have found a work around. Disabling Bluetooth on the iPhone before connecting to the car will let the phone start CarPlay with no problem. Then I enable Bluetooth.

to make this easier I created a shortcut that turns off Bluetooth, waits 15sec and turns it back on.

I’ve tested for the past 2 days and have had no issues.

Just wondering what everyone else is seeing and/or fixes you’ve found?

I have iPhone 8 and no issues. I use plug in CarPlay about 1/3 the time and it disconnects Bluetooth connection automatically every time. When I don’t use CarPlay, it connect via Bluetooth. I have never had to shut off Bluetooth.

I have an 11pro..

If I just use BT then all is good. when I try to use CarPlay I have connectivity issues and Audi quality problems. Spent weeks trying diffent things and disabling BT works. Maybe something more inherent in the iPhone 11pro.

thanks for your feedback

I have a 2019 if that makes a difference but I also have the iPhone 11 Pro Max. No issues with CarPlay on iOS 13.2.3 (have not upgraded to the most recent 13.3 because I always wait a few weeks before updating my iOS). I don’t have to turn odd Bluetooth or anything like that. I actually haven’t had any issues with Carplay or Bluetooth at all with the release of iOS 13 like I’ve seen some say on the Apple forums. This is also true with CarPlay in the 2019 Buick Enclave we have in my household. I will say that the first day I had my iPhone 11 Max Pro (got it on release day) I did have issues with Bluetooth connecting but that same day I had an appointment scheduled at the dealership for them to do a firmware update to the headunit (due to a previous issue with the headunit itself not related to Bluetooth or CarPlay) and once that was done connection worked perfectly so I’m not sure if that is why I’ve been without the issues you mentioned. Are you on the original iOS 13 or are you on 13.3 (or anything in between)? Have you done any troubleshooting with Apple Support to try and see if that helps resolve the issue?

I’m on 13.3. Oddly beta 13 worked fine and each subsequent update made it worse.

Im out of town and rented a Kia Forte. CarPlay works like a dream.

I tried to clear my HU by disconnecting the battery, but it didn’t. Wondering if there is a way to do a full factory reset on the HU??

I’ve been having issues with Apple CarPlay since day one with mine. The head unit has been a complete POS all along. Finally was able to get it to a dealership when it was losing its mind.

The service department took a video of it and said they would have to reach out to Nissan directly for a resolution.

Still haven’t heard anything.

Mine has always been a chore to get Apple CarPlay to start, it likes to hang, lag and reboot at random. Often times the audio will get all jittery or not work at all. And recently even the regular radio has started to do the jittery crap.

Happy I didn’t buy this vehicle, it’s going back when the lease is up!

Yep! That’s what’s going on with mine. Don’t have the screen blanking... try with BT off. I’m curious if that works for anyone else.

My wife has an iphone and I have an android. Resolved all the issues with carplay and AA after switching to 3 ft certified cables.

Give it a try. You can always return a cable back to amazon.
Thanks I give that a try

My brand new cable that came with my galaxy s8 phone did not work. Constantly disconnected. There is something about the length.
I thing an OEM cable is designed to connect directly to usb port that sits on the motherboard.
In Murano's case there is a cable thant comes down from the head unit, and then you add an additional 5-6ft cable to connect your phone. If the usb port was directly on the unit an oem cable most likely would work just fine.

I just ordered a MFi certified four inch cable. Should be here by the end of the week.

I’ll let you all know how it works out. I’ll be very happy if it actually makes it work better.
The four inch lightning cable did the trick! Works flawlessly, Apple CarPlay starts right up like it should, no jittery audio. Navigation and messages work. So happy this is working now. Been a non stop struggle from day one with this car!

Here’s the cable I got:

AmazonBasics USB A Cable with Lightning Connector, Premium Collection, MFi Certified iPhone Charger, 4 Inch, Blue

Check with your dealerships also to see about getting your headunit software/firmware updated. That may help also. Not the OTA updates we can do but it’s one they have to do via a USB download they received. Takes about an hour or so to complete. Looked at my receipt from September when they did it on mine but it wasn’t specific as to what update was installed. Also I will mention that I only use the sync cable that came with my iPhone and I don’t have any issues. I believe they also mentioned on my most recent visit to get my oil change done and have the regional tech specialist try to troubleshoot the ongoing issue I’m having with my headunit (again not related to bluet or CarPlay. An issue with the radio blacking out or the sound not playing at all that they thought the initial update would address but did not) that there was a bulletin out about issues with the USB on some cars but was already determined was not an issue mine experiences. Might be worth having them check into that.

Update!

I tried all the cables you guys suggested. No luck

I went to the dealer, spent about an hour with a tech, tested my phone, his phone, a few other techs' phones. All their phones were iPhone XS or older and worked flawlessly. My 11 Pro of course didn't work. They applied some updates that were not related....just in case, and no Joy. they were really nice and wanted to help me fix this...but nothing they know to do would help.

I went to Apple and they were nice enough to give me a new phone. The new 11 Pro phone was even more temperamental than my first 11 Pro. ugh!

Test with my Wife's Xs, my son's Xr, a 7... they all worked fine.

Put my phone in my wife's Mazada CX-5, worked flawlessly. Tried in a Kia Forte (rental I had) and it worked flawlessly.

Conclusion: the iPhone 11 Pro just won't work in the 2018 Murano.

I was about to swap phones with my wife when I came across a post on a Mercedes forum where a guy was having the same problems as I am. His dealer told him to get the Apple .5M cable. It fixed his problem.

I got the .5m Apple cable... IT WORKS!! been working great for a week now!

Hopefully anyone else with this issue will have luck with the .5m cable too.

I have a 11 Pro 256gb Green, with Dual Sims (one digital, one physical).

I have the same issues. After upgrading from 13.2 to 13.3, CarPlay started not working or when it did work, it lagged like a 486 computer and was not useable. I swapped authentic apple lightening cables. I tried it on 2 other iphone X, 13.2, 13.1, all which work with CarPlay, swapping out from authentic to unauthentic cables. Car CPU was flashed recently due to transmission programming.

I have 3 authentic apple lighting cables, from an apple mouse (less than 1 year old), apple keyboard(less than 1 year old), and ipad pro(2 months old). All which I have rotated and it has not make a difference.

From a thought process. Why would maps lag?

I went into settings, switch location services for each application that CarPlay shows from "while using" to "always" and then it worked multiple times today. It did crash once and did not connect (saying not compatible), but after reconnecting, it worked, within 1 second.

Maybe it was just luck as well, I'll know tomorrow.

In the meantime, I have ordered 3 MFi apple certified cables, Amazon basics 4 inch, Amazon basic premium (nylon) 3ft, and Ankler 1ft to continue trouble shooting it.

Update. The location services modification set to always was complete luck.

I sat there swapping out all the cables to test the theories above.

1. No 3ft genuine apple cable works, if it connects by chance it lags, or upon restart, will not connect again.
2. Ankler 1ft cable MFI works each and every time
3. Amazon basics 4inch MFI works each and every time.

This is crazy...I’m wondering if the USB port on the murano is just not sending a strong enough signal and the 11pro is more sensitive to signal loss. With the .5m cable it’s been smooth sailing.

at least there is a work around! I was ready to to go full after market.

I honestly don’t know why everyone seems to be having issues and I have not (luckily). I have an 11 Pro Max updated to iOS 13.3 and only use the Apple cables (both the old lightening to USB and the lightening to USB-C that came with the 11 Pro Max). Never have Issues with CarPlay. Doesn’t lag or freeze or just refuse to connect. Haven’t changed my settings on my phone. I did mention before that my headunit got an update from the dealership but it wasn’t due to an issue with CarPlay and it wasn’t the recall update for the cameras so I’m not sure if that’s been the reason why I haven’t had any problems regardless of each iOS update. Worked fine with my previous iPhone too. Maybe I’ve been extremely lucky but I’d definitely stay on top of complaining about the troubles to Nissan and Apple for those of you being affected.

Can you tell us more about the '19 head unit update you received and what it was targeted to correct?

Was it something you requested, or did the dealer just offer to do it?

SOLUTION UPDATE!!
I have had the same problems with my iPhone 11 in my 2018 Murano and just performed the Apple 13.3.1 update that came out yesterday and suddenly everything worked beautifully on the first try...however by the second try same problems presented themselves. I was using a 3ft. Apple lightning/USB cord. I had ordered and received an Ankler 1ft. cable MFI from Amazon based on @daleydlin's recommendation/post and tried that and suddenly everything worked beautifully. So my best advice is to perform the 13.3.1 update get the Ankler 1 ft cable or the Amazon 4" MFI and things will work as they should. Promise!!!

Here is the info I got the cable details from:
1. No 3ft genuine apple cable works, if it connects by chance it lags, or upon restart, will not connect again.
2. Ankler 1ft cable MFI works each and every time
3. Amazon basics 4inch MFI works each and every time.

I don’t know why I’ve been so lucky but I have never had these issues and the standard 1 meter cable and the 2 meter one has always worked for me. Same iPhone 11 Pro Max and 2 others in my household. No issues. Glad you have found a work around but there is clearly something else going on if this issue isn’t happening to every iPhone 11 Pro Max. No clue what that something could be but I’m sure if neither Apple nor Nissan has claimed responsibility or acknowledged there is something going on they won’t at this point. As long as you found a way to make things work for you thats all that matters though.

This is the cable I found works flawlessly:

Update: I upgraded from the iPhone 10 to the iPhone 12 and Carplay still works fine. Same cable still going strong.

Are you finding the .5mm cord
To help discuss things and find specs about items, "mm" is millimetres, so you have referred to a length of approx 1/50th of an inch.
It would correctly be 0.5M or 0.5Meters or 0.5Metres (depending on which Country spelling is used for Metre/Meter).
When searching for the spec of the cord, I believe you are looking for a length of 0.5M or 0.5Meters or 0.5Metres, approx 20 inch.
Cheers
